Q: In what year were conquered banners returned peacefully to the South?

In 1905 the U.S. government returned to the former Confederate States over 500 flags captured during the Civil War. An obscure Southern railroad presented a 60-page souvenir, with 71 color lithographs of the flags as they were in 1905, to all Confederate veterans at their reunion in Louisville, Kentucky, on June 14, 1905.

I'm adding this 'bump' so that people will return and discover that I've replaced my wise-ass original guess. The 1905 date is my correct guess.

Correct Sir!

President Grover Cleveland had approved their return in 1887, but indignation among Northerns caused him to revoke the order.
