The core of the problem is that the general public who never played a MMORPG cannot possibly get what the point is. Even those who are otherwise smart and computer-savvy.

Indeed. And one wonders whether CCP knows this and is prepared to accept the departure of a large number of EVE players in return for an even larger number of casual gamers who, it can be assumed given the nature of EVE's skill training, will be all too willing to trade real dollars for game advantage.

But there are too many other games trying the same thing. They can subscribe to all of them for a while. If they find a game too frustrating they won't spend a single dollar.

Maybe these guys are a little too proud of their "actions have consequences" model and how many people there are that can find it appealing?

BTW, there's some interesting drama developing on press coverage of the CCP press conference. Not sure what to make of this so far, but it's interesting reading.
