Vacation reading. As you might imagine, there are not a lot of humourous anecdotes in this book. There are a few, however, and I read one that I thought was worth sharing.
On a training exercise with Churchill Mark 7 tanks, the author and his squadron surprised the "enemy side".
Going downhill with the engine governor sabotaged, a Churchill 7 could do 25 mph. Suddenly everyone was doing 25-even the C.O. Afew intrepid drivers took their ctanks out of gear and went rolling ahead at speeds undreamed of by the designers.
Suddenly they were through the main line of the enemy. Some umpires waved red flags, but no one took notice. A platoon of anti-tank gunners stood open-mouthed by their half-concealed weapons; they hadn't seen anything like it before.
