Commissioned Officer Edition Announced

CCP has announced a new boxed retail edition of the award-winning science fiction masterpiece EVE Online. This fall, the leading sci-fi MMORPG will be arriving in an updated retail package with exceptional support for new pilots in the EVE Online: Commissioned Officer Edition.


This latest boxed edition will include an exclusive in-game item, the Cerebral Accelerator, which is a military-grade implant that significantly increases a new pilot’s skill development. While they are a very strong boost to nearly all abilities, these bonuses are temporary and are only effective for the first 30 days of a pilot’s life as they get up to speed in the universe.

It's already started. There's a huge thread about it on the official forums, and people aren't happy with what amounts to selling skill points for real money.

Honestly, I'm not sure this is actually going to entice anyone to play who wasn't already considering doing so. And once the 35 day limit is reached the module dies and the character will experience a very significant drop in overall effectiveness, which might actually do more to discourage new players than anything else. And all the while it's infuriating the EVE base, so who wins here?
