Game Turn 12

News briefing for GT12:

New units this turn include a CIDG unit for Dak Sut and the first Australian combat formation, the 1st Battalion, Royal Australian Regiment, to arrive at Vung Tau. It will serve as the third maneuver battalion of the 173d Airborne Brigade:

The NVA has laid siege to the Duc Co CIDG camp in Pleiku Province this turn. Being short of mobile combat units in II Corps, I can only reinforce the camp with a Ranger battalion for now:

There's two operations this turn, the first is an air-assault by the 1st Battalion, 503d Infantry (Airborne) north of Vung Tau and the second is a road clearing operation by the ARVN II Corps between Pleiku and Kontum:

The 271st VC Regiment which attacked Song Be broke contact and fled but the enemy launches two new attacks this turn, including a regimental-size one near Quang Ngai City:

Game Turn 13

News briefing at the start of GT13:

Only new units this turn are two A-4 Skyhawks squadrons, the first to arrive at the newly completed Chu Lai airfield:

Action this turn concentrates on recapturing Phu Loc and Ba Gia. Both counterattacks are successful, thanks to lavish air and naval support:

But the 1st VC Regiment at Ba Gia is still full of fight, and counterattacks the ARVN rangers and paratroopers, with heavy casualties on both sides:

Boonie, considering the 'vary large' mission cap, what's your overall points score?

I'm losing with -634/3000 right now. The game is geared to end with a marginal defeat or draw for the Allied player.

Game Turn 21

News briefing for GT21:

The 1st Brigade, 101st Airborne Division, lands at Cam Ranh Bay, becoming the third Army brigade in-country, and establishes its base camp across the bay at Dong Ba Thin:

There are three operations this turn, one in the Da Nang TAOR and two east of Bien Hoa. None produces significant contact with the enemy:

The scenario (and this AAR) concludes on a draw, which is the historical result:

Hope you enjoyed reading this AAR, it was sub-optimal play of course, I stuck to the missions described in the manual for the most part, a more aggressive player will probably raise the victory level significantly, but the expected historical results was achieved.

Nicely done AAR, Boonie!

Probably not, they take too much time to make and the following volumes have much more turns and missions. For now I'm planning on going back to work on Volume 14 (The Cambodian Incursion). Work has stalled since a few months, with about 60% of the scenario done (damn you VASSAL!)

Amazing! I was reading your AAR for the last few days and just admire your effort in creating all 14 scenarios (so far) and this beautiful AAR. I am new to TOAW so every new day with this game is a new experience.

I started your "Vietnam Combat Operations Volume 1" scenario and it is really a great stuff + superb manual. The only trouble for me, since I am visually impaired person, is that the original brass_cursor and steel_cursor TOAW tiles are hard to spot on the map so I made a small modification to help myself.

Usually I use brass & steel tiles (red and yellow) made by JMass in his mods, but for your Vietnam map I adjust his yellow one to light blue which is more easier for me to see on the "jungle" map.

Another nice example of the way graphics can be modified. Good luck with your missions in the jungle, and I agree, this is a great AAR
