From the vid it looks exactly the same as CMSF. Interface, commands, the lot. The buildings don't remind me of Afghanistan, they remind me of CMSF ones. Where the mud brick?

I don't know whAt the guy is saying, but its clear he can't work the interface.

I'd like to see a bit more of it for comparison, but right now I think I can make all of the Afghan game on CMSF. A very specialist purchase this one.

What would make it even more special, if you could import the forces into SF and vice versa. As it stands now, I can't see many players buying it.

Didn't know what you could possibly mean by this, but after seeing the camera swing wildly completely out of the playing area at least twice, and focusing on the background image for several seconds, I have to agree this dude is really inept.

greetings, alex
We are going to release a free demo next week.
Looks like we get to find out next week. Mind you, didn't Moon say about a month ago that a CMN forum would be up in a week?

The terrain looks okay; I don't know if they had trees set to "extreme" or not - it's not the default and they looked a bit sparse, so I'm guessing not. Anything would be better than the desert. The hill overlooking the town looked nice. Hard to really tell much from the video. A demo would be a good idea.

I had to laugh when he got tickled at something....

Hmmm,hmmm,hmmm,hmmm....

It's been a long time since I've looked at CMx2. You can sure see the heritage in the editor. I had forgotten what tile based terrain looked like.

Good Hunting.

I was under the stupid impression that things like water will be in CMA. I also thought that since it was Afghanistan and not Syria that the buildings would be more representative of that area of the world. You just have to watch 5 minutes from Afgh to see its not Iraq, er Syria.

It's not much of a showcase, but I'm guessing it's not from the developer. At least, I hope such an inept, boring display of fluff is not from the developer, for their sake. Looks like a fan video. I'd expect an "official" video to be more polished, and, as you say, showcase more of the "new" stuff.

According to some Russian guys on the BFC forums, it is a review by a guy holding up Command & Conquer, Starcraft and Warcraft as his preferred games and saying that he thinks this game is crap. Guess he wasn't won over...

Well, not a fair video to judge by, then. I'll look forward to the demo, or at least a video that the developer releases. The guy sounds like a fruitbat. Can barely work the camera controls and then complains the game sucks.

Now, if he had deep meaningful intellectual and philosophical objections to the direction of the game design, I'd be all ears... ;) But I don't get that from a sound bite in another language.

Word on the street says the Demo may be out as early as Wednesday. Maybe even earlier.

The videos dont really tell you much of anything about the differences between CMSF and CMA. I didnt see any water and the terrain, while more foilagey, doesnt look any different. But thats what I expected in the main.

What dissapoints though is the treatment of the buildings. I rather got the impression that it might actually be made to look slightly like the country they are fighting in. Wheres all the Mud Brick walls, compunds, little warren like villages, caves?

Hopefully they will all become apparent when the Demo arrives. If not, then you could skin the Syrians in CMSF and do a similar job of the Fighters and viola, home made CMA, in fact it would be better to buy the NATO module and get Red Air as well.

I dont really see this appealing to anyone who has CMSF, or who is waiting on CMN, which is going to be something trully different. It really does look like it could have been a Mod for CMSF.

Demo will tell me this though for sure. At least BF have sort of published a new game (loosely) since 2007 now.

TOW Korea looks nice though.....

BFC have put up 6 promotional videos for Afghanistan, and a demo is promised later this month (i.e. June 2011)
Heh. Still waiting on their promised CM:N forum, but for some reason I believe their demo promise this time. Mostly because I don't care about it. Thanks for the links.

Ok looked at the mechanized infantry one.

Much slicker than past videos. Nice music in it. If I had no idea what CM was, it really wouldn't tell me what it was about, but it would tell me the 3D modelling was pretty good, the dynamic lighting was nice (good job tracking the camera around the squad while walking across the field, showing how the sun hits it), and then following the point man into the trench, which is nicely sculptured.

In other words, kind of bypassed all the shortcomings of the game, which is what you would expect a decent video to do. I always thought the sound effects were the least convincing thing about the game, as well as the animations, so they deftly sidestep all that by avoiding contact in this one.

The game box looks nice too.

Video gives no clue that this is a squad-based company-level game, but I guess as a teaser, that's not the point. Kind of too bad that you can sell a FPS based on what it is but have to "trick" people into buying strategy games because they actually make you think.

And the infantry video...

Forgot to mention the transitions are nice between scenes.

The infantry video highlights the shortcomings I mentioned in the last post; animations are goofy looking - huge muzzleblast on that LMG looks like a ray gun, and those guys crawling around under fire in slow motion just lose verisimilitude. There's not much to see in this video. They obviously can't show hand-to-hand combat, or bayonets fixed, or prototypical "infantry combat" images so they just show the same shot of an LMG gunner blasting into the distance for several seconds. It highlights the basic objection to the game among the detractors - the real lack of things to do for the infantry.

As Geordie points out, the videos aren't really geared at owners of CM:SF or current owners, and don't showcase "what's new".

If there is water in the new game, I don't see it. I wonder if that is truly the case, to be honest.

I think that what's his name, Mord, the Uber groupie mentioned it, he's pumped seemingly. Was he the guy that tired to join the Army at 40 something, or is he a modder?
