Is there a Chronology of War online anywhere? Or is there a file that has that info in it?

Thanks

Hmmm

Yes and no....

Its very limited, I wanted to see all the scenarios in North Africa from 6/40 to 12/42, sorted by date of year, month and date.

28909

So back to my query, is there another database that we can query?

No those are just the ones in Libya, not in Egypt, Tunisia, Morocco, Syria and Algeria.

Also you can not sort by year, month or day for a real data set.

At the bottom of the advanced search, six options up from the Search button, there is an "Order by:" list. You can select Title, Rating, Date, ID, Publication or Random. That will allow you to order them by date.

I know nothing of the difficulty involved, so take it with a grain of salt, but it could be an ask to Dave to allow a multi-select list for country as another search option. Location is a free text field on the scenario, though, so the underling data might not be as easy to sort down without implementing more stringent rules for scenario locations (country being stored separately as currently search on location appears to be looking for a matching value in the entire string).

One more separate thought, which you may have already considered. There is a Chronology of War on the Texas ASL site here, which is an excel file that has 8,743 scenarios, though the last update was in 2020.

A full search of the Scenario Archive gives me 10,061, so obviously it's missing quite a bit of recent scenarios, but I saw your other post where you have 6800, and the excel file is easier to sort by the countries you listed. A quick COUNTIF gave me 466 scenarios between those five countries.

The scenario archive includes ACW stuff and other non-ASL in its collection.

Thank you again for CoW. It was essential in my research of DASL scenarios. It has listings that are not in the ASL Scenario Archive.

I checked the current listing in the Scenario Archive against the CoW and it does now contain all of the DASL scenarios listed in CoW.

That may have been as a result of your previous efforts or updates that have been done since then, but if you know of any that still might be missing, let me know so they can be included!

This thread is the ASL community at its best:

  • someone of us has a question
  • there are numerous helpful and kind answers
  • and various crazies have in various places "done the work" in various approaches as labor of love
Thanks to all involved!
