When it comes to opening theory, my knowledge ends at 1.e4, 1.d4, 1.Nf3, or 1...e5 1...d5 or 1...c5
I don't bother memorizing any openings beyond that. I just don't have the patience or the memory. I rather just wing it and play what feels right. However, I will, from time to time, double-check my hunches with an openings book, but that's the extent of my research.
Yes, agreed. I dont really know any openings. I try to play to general opening principles.
Playing 15 odd games over the last fortnight with 10 minute time controls put me in allot of positions i wasnt used to though. Even simple stuff like d4/queens gambit. I cant be arsed learning openings, i'd rather spend the time playing. But i need to have a better+quicker response to some common openings i dont normally see. WIth shorter time control limits i dont have time to think about what to do. If i can get through the first 5 or so moves without major dramas i hope general middle game principles can get me home.
