The 8th NEW Indochine Campaign scenario!
08 Ghost Carrier

CENTRAL PACIFIC:
Papua/New Guinea/E Australia:

In 1985, the Australians sold their Majestic-class carrier, HMAS Melbourne to the Chinese for scrap. After a much star-crossed journey, it was finally delivered to Port Huangpu almost two months later. However, the ship was not scrapped immediately. In fact, it was not scrapped at all. After world interest in its fate waned and became caught up in more important issues, the Chinese secretly began to refit the old warhorse. They began to train pilots in carrier operations, and unbeknownst to the rest of the world, the first Chinese operational carrier was developed - their most guarded secret. Long after the events that brought the Chinese a first-class navy with several well known and celebrated carrier squadrons, the Chinese Indochines still kept their little secret.

When the US is enroute to deliver the first of two newly refitted Iwo Jima-class carriers to Australia, a ghost from the past emerges out of the Solomon Sea and challenges their right to pass though the Coral Sea to Australia.

No misinterpretation taken by any means. I always value your opinions and reports. If anything, I was making a statement about my own work and am very humble about getting an honest critique from any quarter. I am very pleased to hear though that the database and scenarios are stable and engaging for the membership. Once again, thanks for the feedback, which I value highly. Best, Alan

My statement should in no way be mis-construed or mis-interpreted as criticism of the scenario. In fact, it is a positive acknowledgement that the scenario and database is fully functional. There's been a lot of noise from some that cannot achieve this basic operational level. The darn thing works, plain and simple. The high number of downloads for the CasoDB is the community's response and recognizes the delivery of a reliable database and scenarios.

You get them because you actually fix things when problems are reported, instead of pretending that your problems do not exist.

With your latest scenario, there might be a minor problem in the ViConds. My CVBG arrived at RefPt Home and sailed a bit past it before stopping, but could not trigger the ViCond. After sitting there awhile, I continued sailing in the same previous direction as before and managed to trigger the ViCond. I looked with the SE and think that your ViCond polygon is a bit too small and does not actually cover the RefPt. I do not know if this is intentional or not. This is just my experience in case you might wish to adjust your ViCond.

Yikes! You're right. I also noticed it took a while to get the ViConds to trigger, but thought it was just a peculiarity of the game. I went ahead and enlarged the ploygon because it was meant to trigger soon after getting all relavent ships past RefPt HOME. Shall I resubmit the scenario? I'll do it at HarPlonk if so.

The 9th NEW Indochine Campaign scenario!
09 The Perth Incident

EAST INDIAN OCEAN:
Indonesia/Malaysia/W Australia:

Barely past the second month of the war, and Perth finds it's extensive naval base blockaded with mines. Enemy subsurface forces managed to find a way in and mined all deep sea-lane approaches to the naval facilities in the harbor.

With their embarrassment complete, the commanding officers and staff assigned to Perth have tendered their resignations effective immediately, and the incoming command staff has been left with the unenviable task of fixing a most disastrous situation. Compounding the problem is the fact that a large number of Allied ships, which were in port after conducting combined fleet exercises now find themselves bottled up in Perth. Worse still is the fact that the 2nd newly refitted Iwo Jima-class carrier, HMAS Kimberley, is soon to arrive with escorts and auxilliaries on a lend/lease program - all laden with supplies. With Allied assets locked up in port, is the HMAS Kimberley walking into an Indochine orchestrated trap?

The clock is ticking to get an escort out of the harbor, and in a position to offer assistance to the newly arriving carrier group and convoy.

The 10th NEW Indochine Campaign Scenario!
10 Fortress Adak

North/Northwest Pacific -
Aleutian Islands:

Adak is reinforced by US and Canadian forces after the Attu evacuation, but a large Indochine invasion is in progress. Operating from their newly conquered islands of Attu and Kiska, the Indochine strike force threatens the survival of the US mission on Adak.

Allied forces must repel the invasion and prevent the Indochine Alliance from securing a complete grip on the Northwest Pacific, which would threaten the US mainland and Allied supply of Japan.

End of 2nd Battleset – “The Abyss of War”

This scenario, “Falklands Revisited”, is the eleventh scenario of the campaign and the last of the second battleset – “The Abyss of War”. The next battleset of the Indochine Campaign is “Too Few Victories”. With luck and some hard work it will come out sometime later this year with a series of 6 scenarios. I hope you check in and play.

Thanks, Alan Caso

****************************************************************************

The 11th NEW Indochine Campaign Scenario!
11 Falklands Revisited

South America/Caribbean/US/Canada:

Argentine surface forces begin strikes on the Falklands. A newly built carrier on lend-lease from China is a knock-off version of the Russian Moskva-class carrier. It carries updated and redesigned Yaks, which have been much improved since the initial Soviet designs. Also aboard are Sea Harriers from India, all of which help embolden Argentina's new power projection. The Argentine military nows feels confident that, with a much-bolstered and built-up military, coupled with the British engaged with commitments elsewhere, an eventual occupation of the Falklands (Malvinas) has a high chance of success.

With their forces stretched thin, the British Government appeals to Chile for assistance. However, the Chilean navy is anticipating trouble with Argentina in the Straits of Magellan, and so is unable to respond. Brazil still hesitates to become involved, preferring to remain neutral.

In the interim, the Royal Navy and Auxillary Forces cobble together a small convoy and escort in an attempt to break through and resupply the Falklands.

2nd Amended Caso dB

There is a new, 2nd update of the Caso dB which reflects changes in the turn-around or “ready time” of most aircraft loadouts. The loadouts have been accelerated for quicker game play. To some of the more traditional and conservative gamers of the Harpoon community, this most likely will be viewed as heresy. However, the Indochine Campaign is based on a “what if” premise, so certain liberties have already been taken. For the sake of keeping the game moving and exciting, the intent is to prevent long and drawn out scenarios. You will find the update in the Players DB Harpoon Library, and along with it all the Indochine scenarios to date will be re-synched with the new database.

In addition, this notice announces the 3rd and latest Indochine Battleset, “Too Few Victories,” which will be comprised of six new scenarios. Thanks and enjoy!

03.0 Too Few Victories

This is to announce the 3rd Battleset, consisting of six scenarios that occur during May-Jun of 2007.

Still finding themselves in a defensive posture, the Allies look desperately for somewhere to strike a blow. Morale is low, and the defeatists have the podium. The strategists realize that although a quick victory would be a welcome event, holding the line is the most important action at this point. Spin doctors try to paint a positive picture while the strategy is to hold tight and stay the course.

The 12th NEW Indochine Campaign Scenario!

12 The 2nd Beagle Conflict

South/Central America/Carribean/US
Tierra del Fuego, Southern tip of the Americas:

Spanish for "Fireland" or "Land of Fire," Tierra del Fuego is an archepelago off the southernmost tip of the South American mainland across the Strait of Magellan. It is an area that is divided by both Chile and Argentina. Beagle Channel is a strait in this archipelago island chain. The Beagle Channel, the Straits of Magellan to the north, and the open ocean Drake Passage to the south are the three navigable passages around South America between the Pacific and Atlantic Oceans. The channel was named after the ship HMS Beagle during its first hydrographic survey off these southern coasts. The ship was famous for the English naturalist, Charles Darwin, who was along as a self-funding supernumerary, and at the time, an amateur naturalist.

From the 1950's to 1970's, several incidents involving the Chilean and Argentine Navies occurred in the waters of the Beagle Channel. This ended with the Treaty of Peace and Friendship of 1984 between Chile and Argentina.Once again that remote area of the world comes under conflict. Argentine forces from their main southern combined military base at Rio Gallegos, together with elements of their southern naval base at Ushuaia attempt to seize control of the Beagle Channel. In this difficult endeavor, the Argentines plan a multifaceted attack on the Chilean naval base at Puerto Williams. Chilean military units are on hand to answer the call in a desperate confrontation.

The 13th NEW Indochine Campaign Scenario!

13 Phantoms of Jiddat al Harasis

Mideast/Southwest Asia/Eastern Mediterranean

Arabian Sea:

Iranian-supported Omani rebels conduct raids in the Arabian Sea on merchant and naval shipping. Operating from the remote shores along the coast of Oman between Juzur al Halaniyat and the Gulf of Masirah, the barren plains of the Jiddat al Harasis provide a refuge for these phantom marauders, causing them to seemingly disappear into the desert air.

The Omani military cannot control the area. The US Navy attempts to ferret out these ghosts of the desert.

The 14th NEW Indochine Campaign Scenario!

14 The Gate of Grief - Long and Short Versions

Mideast/Southwest Asia/Eastern Mediterranean;
Arabian Sea/Persian Gulf/Red Sea:

The Mouth of the Red Sea:

Bab-el-Mandeb, or Gate of Grief in Arabic, is a strait between Yemen on the Arabian Peninsula, and the Horn of Africa. It connects the Red Sea to the Gulf of Aden. The strait derives its name from the dangers attending its navigation. Modern day Yemeni pirates and terrorists supplied by the Indochines use this squeeze point and the Gulf of Aden to ply their trade of terror, and threaten the passage leading in and out of the Red Sea.

Local, Allied and International commerce traversing this vital sea gate rely on safe passage through these waters to exercise their right of trade. French naval forces, with the aid of some Spanish and British units, are tasked with removing this threat and supressing Indochine raiders.

This scenario offers two versions - a Long and Short version. The long version runs 23 hours, while the short version will run 15 hours.

15 Action in the Andamans

East Indian Ocean/Bay Bengal/Myanmar/NW Indonesia;
Andaman Islands:

A small combined force of French, British and Australian surface units attempt to chase down merchant raiders and enemy ships disrupting sea lanes along the Andaman Islands and the Northwest Indonesian territory of Aceh.

Being the first Muslim establishment in S E Asia, Aceh Territory has the highest proportion of Muslims in Indonesia. Islamic Fundmentalism is strong, and their support of the Indochine Regime is fanatic.

The 16th NEW Indochine Campaign Scenario

Islands In The Stream Pt 1

Pacific:
North Northeast of the Solomons:

The Marshalls and Kiribati:

Taken at face value, the small Southwest Central Pacific island chains of the Marshalls, Kiribati (former Gilberts) and Micronesia don't really amount to anything more than isolated atolls, which were destination spots for adventurous vacationers before hostilities broke out. Treasured by snorkelers, divers and sports fishermen, these were islands in the stream of well-plied sea routes for trade and commerce. However, in the big picture, they have become strategic points of control since having fallen under Indochine rule.

With the advent of war, Indochine forces quickly snatched up the Marshalls, Kiribati, the Federated States of Micronesia and the Solomons. From bases on these strategic points, the Indochine forces can project power over the sea routes of the southwest central Pacific and provide a stranglehold over Australian and Philippine supply and reinforcement.

In this scenario, we find the Allies attempting their first offensive action in the war by launching a plan to retake Majuro in the Marshalls and Betio (Tarawa) in the Kiribati island group - a desperate gamble to free the Islands in the Stream.

The 17th NEW Indochine Campaign Scenario

Islands In The Stream Pt 2

Southwest and Central Pacific:
North of the Solomons:

Federated States of Micronesia:

In the previous scenario, the Allies have taken Majuro in the Marshalls and Betio (Tarawa) in the Kiribati island group. This scenario finds the capitol of Palikir in eastern Micronesia as the target of the second offensive action taken by the allies in the war, and the final stage in securing the disparate island groups of the South Central Pacific - another gamble to free the Islands in the Stream.
