Interesting news blurb:

CCP Confirm “Captain’s Quarters” For Eve

According to this devblog the “Captain’s Quarters”, complete with your avatar inhabiting it, will appear on Eve’s test server within the next six weeks. It’s going to be single player, essentially offline to begin with, but it’s the first stage, say CCP, to implementing the full “Walking In Stations” tech.
When all this is implemented, that is when EvE could become dangerously addictive. It will be like Silent Hunter in space, which has been a dream game of mine for years now.

Well they better make sure there is something to do, in whatever form. Otherwise people try it once and then forget.

I wish CCP would concentrate on fixing really important stuff like sovereignty system, which is horridly broken at the moment, instead of adding new stuff every six months just so they can hype another expansion. In this regard CCP is the polar opposite of Blizzard. Blizzard's motto is polish, polish, polish and the company doesn't release new features until they are truly ready. CCP, on the other hand, just continually adds new features whether they are ready or not, and then ignores all the bugs, broken features, and balance issues created by the introduction of the new stuff.

You'll note we hear a lot about how good Incarna is going to look and how cool features like Captain's Quarters are going to be. But we never seem to hear what purpose these "exciting" new features will serve or what you'll be able to do there. It should be more than obvious to everyone by now that CCP really wants to add some form of walking around in the game because they strongly feel it will attract masses of casual gamers who have little interest in space combat or empire building. The problem is they have no idea what purpose it would all serve beyond looking cool and making for great banner advertisements.

Truly, this is a horrid way to design a game.
