A happy new year from Japan.

C9.5 example describes as if a location of hit should be determined by "IFT DR".
Is that true? Isn't it determined by "TH DR"?
Or, I misread English sentence?

A mortar is a direct fire weapon that is resolved as if it were indirect fire. So, location of hits is determined by the effects DR, not the TH DR, just as if the fire were from OBA (the only form of indirect fire).

This is commonly misplayed, however, because people are so used to looking for location of hits on the TH DR. I have seen it misplayed so often that I do not correct it during play. As long as the rule is consistantly applied (even if incorrectly appllied), the result is fair.

Where in Japan are you?

From time to time I have occasion to travel to Japan for business.

I see. Thank you very much.

PS: I live in Sapporo, Hokkaido. At times I go to Tokyo on business.
I will be traveling USA or UK on business (or to play games) after I
master English conversation (oops, anyway I must save a little money to go abroad).

>So, how did you discover ASL?

Back in around 1990, a distributor released the Rule Book (1st edition)
in Japanese. The distributor was an importer of Avalon Hill.

I bought it about 7years ago. I have been an ASLer for 2years.
Even if written in Japanese, it was difficult to learn.

Now, I (with a few friends) am translating the 2nd edition with permission of MMP. It is a tough task.

Well if its any consolation, Ive had it for years and I'm still learning. Yes the language in the rulebook is very convoluted, but so is the English language.

Good luck on the translation, thats quite the project.

How many of you are there? It would be neat to get in a ftf game during a business trip. Unfortunately, the farthest North I get is Mashiko/Moca City, if I get even that far.

>How many of you are there?

...means the number of ASLer in Japan?
I'm not sure of the exact number, but at least 20 - 30 are playing regularly. Many of which are live within the Metropolitan area.
So, I have only a few f2f opponents.

When the 2nd RB Japanese edition is released, newbes will increase remarkably.

In future, I may visit USA or UK to collect stuff for a book or to take pictures (as a photographer) rather than on company business. So, it will be easy to make time to play ASL in your country.

By that time I will be able to speak and write English.
Also, I will become "excellent" PTO player.

See you someday.

Your written English is better than that of many people here. Do you know about VASL? It is a way to play ASL via computer when ftf opponents are not available, but you still need at least a rulebook. Here is a link: http://www.vassalengine.org/
Good luck.

Thanks. Anyhow, I will continue studying it.

VASL...of course I know. It is a greatest software.
At the same time, we may realize that playing by f2f is very attracting, too.

Not really, all you need is a pair of head sets and an opponent willing to use it and you can talk anywhere in the world for the price of your local ISP call or less if you have a cable or other newer type modem.
