a doubt arised today :

the 237 starts its Movement under a 1/2 acquired counter (from the Tank).
the 237 moves to I5 and then H5 spending 2MF + 2MF = 4 MF
the 1/2 acquired counter follows the HS, so the tank fires to the moving 237 in H5 and misses losing ROF.
At this point the 237 declares a late CX to gain one extra MF leaving H5 AND staying in los of the tank.
Can the American player keep the 1/2 acquired counter in H5 (it's a juicy target!) ignoring the last movement of the 237 or he must keep the 1/2 acquired counter together with his previously elected target? example.PNG

C6.52 is pretty strict. Bracketing can only occur upon declaration of a shot. Until you bracket, you cannot stop tracking the current target unless it goes out of LOS.

One tactics to get an acquisition to stop tracking is to convert to ATT upon shooting at a hex the current target is in/moving through. The 1/2" Acq changes to 5/8" acq and stops tracking the moving target after resolution if it leaves the hex. In a subsequent fire phase (or using Intensive Fire in the current Fire Phase) the ATT acq then can be used against any unit that is in any location in the hex, such as levels 1 or 2 or 3, bracketing back to 1/2" acq upon that shot to pick up the new target upstairs.

Because the 237 & 548 are not a stack during the MPh the Acquisition must follow the 237 if it remains in LOS of the AFV. The same is true if the 237 had remained in H5 at the end of its MPh and then the 548 had moved from the hex but remained in LOS of the AFV, the Acq couldn't track the 548 because it had not been acquired nor had been part of an acquired stack (seemingly).

If however the 237 had ended its MPh with the 548 & the 548 had remained in H5, a stack would seemingly be formed at the end of the MPh and acquisition considered gained on all units in the location, so the AFV could fire at the entire Stack during the DFPh utilizing the Acq. per the last sentence of C6.51. Also, if once a stack had been formed by the 237 & 548 in H5 at the end of the MPh and then the 548 advanced out of the hex but remained in LOS of the AFV during the APh, the AFV could then choose to track the 548 or continue to track the 237 at his discretion as per the same . Note as well, if the Acquisition had initially been placed upon the 548 and then the 237 had entered H5 during the MPh, the AFV could fire on the moving 237 applying the Acq as per the 2nd to last sentence of C6.51. The Q&A does seem somewhat inconsistent with the rule, but as Stacking limits are defined, but not that of a "Stack" or when a Stack is formed, we must rely upon the Q&A and the rules as presented to interpret their full meaning.
