A ripping yarn! I drink to the virtual shades of all the gallant matelots on both sides who fought with such bravery and determination :toast:

I'm amazed Brummer took 7 torp hits... I feel sure a couple ran deep or were duds.

Couldn't agree more mate, she ran on for about 14 more minutes before going under.
I could have included more info, but for some reason Regrets log analyzer showed no events for Brummer, most strange.

If its an enemy boat it won't. It only logs the data on the players ships. Which is frustrating.

MESSAGE TO ADMIRALTY:
HMAMC ALSATIAN:
Position: 149km NNE of Great Yarmouth
MANY SHIPS HEADING CSE 315 NW.

The AMC Alsatian had for the most part of the war been patrolling, enforcing the blockade and capturing blockade runners. Not a shot fired, her crew had seen no real action.

At 0720hrs April 25th her lookouts spotted smoke on the horizon, and lots of it travelling in the opposite direction to Alsatian.
Her captain ordered a turn to stbd to cse 227 WSW, range to the fleet on the horizon was 26000 yards, he knew he was out of range of their guns, but rang up full speed of 18 knots anyway. Deciding to shadow the fleet he changed course again coming right to cse 319 NNW.

On board the HSF flagship Konig the captain was alerted to smoke sighted, peering through his binoculars a faint smudge on the horizon was visible. He ordered via lamp the three destroyers on the fleets starboard side to investigate the sighting, the fleet was on a bombardment mission, and he was anxious to get the mission over and clear enemy waters as his top speed was 15 knots owing to having the old pre dreadnoughts in company.

The three destroyers S24 and G10 and G11 rang up top speed and turned to port cutting through the fleet, this annoyed Konigs captain as the disruption would cost him precious time in reforming, though there was no other practical way for the destroyers to go after the sighting.

Alsatian's lookouts spotted three ships 13000 yards distant heading straight for Alsatian, battle stations were sounded. The ships were identified as destroyers, one was well ahead of the other two and at 7000 yards she opened fire, a loud crack sounded as the shell hit Alsatian's hull. Alsatian responded, all 4 stbd six inch guns opened up on the destroyer, hitting her in the first salvo, on board S24 the shell tore through the hull and destroyed the ships sick bay killing the medics who were preparing for the inevitable casualties. S24 turned to port and headed SSE, being hit again whilst the other two ships came straight on. Alsatian shifted fire to the lead ship of the two G10.

More rounds were hitting Alsatian's hull, but no real damage was being done, on baord G10 a WT signal was sent to Konig "we are engaging enemy AMC". S24 turned NNW back towards Alsatian. On board Alsatian her captain could see that the enemy would be out of the arcs of his forwad guns so ordered "come right to cse 16 " this was followed by another turn to the right to cse 87, the enemy fleet on the horizon kept sailing NW.

This might be a silly question, but what is an AMC doing that far south?

But why there? The RN has bucketloads of old DDs to patrol the southern N Sea.

G10 and G11 headed straight at Alsatian at 32 knots, Alsatiand targeted G10, shell splashes close in made her gunners nervous, her captain ordered torpedoes launched at her adversary.
Six inch shells began hitting her the midships torpedo mount was riddled with shrapnel, and her second funnel holed, still she bore down on her tormentor, another shell destroyed her WT shack killing the operator and destroying her ventilator cowls. Shells penetrated in to her engines disabling one of them, and starting a large fire, fires also burned up on deck fueled by smashed life boats and decking her speed was now down to 26 knots.

G10's torpedoe was spotted and Alsatian turned right to cse 221 to evade it, then left to cse 200. Fire was shifted to G11, she too came in for accurate fire being hit on Alsatian's first salvo.
Alsatian had two casualties, and a damaged stbd two pounder, and minor flooding.
Another torpedoe was spotted and evasive action taken.

Alsatian's evasive manouvres had brought her round to port of S24 who was now comming to the aid of her stricken companions. A WT was sent to Konig, requesting assistance, her captain ordered a hard turn to port to cse 257 and rang up full speed, after first detaching the old pre dreadnoughts.

S24 was hit yet again her torpedoe tubes wrecked and her upper works riddled with splinters, still her guns fired defiantly at her adversary.
G10 and G11 continued on a SW course, they were in no state to continue the fight, the fires buring on and in both ships were now more of a threat than the British ship.

On board Alsatian her lookouts watching the fleet on the horizon noticed the smoke puffs changing, no longer were they in a straight line, seven were seperated from the main group, and the smoke from the main group was also changing there were still the line of ships but there was also a big smudge of smoke, that could mean only one thing - the fleet was comming after them.
Alsatian's captain ordered a hard right turn, heading back SW.

S24 was now without a captain, a six inch shell had killed him and all the others on the bridge, the ship also had no helmsman, two more hits finished her, below decks fires raged unchecked.
G10 and G11 were in a similar state, their captains issued orders to abandon ship.
Alsatian ceased fire on the stricken S24 ahead and on her stbd beam she could see the other two DD's, one was sinking the other was not long from following her companion.

Alsatian sent a WT advising three DD's sunk and Germa fleet in pursuit, heading SW cse 222.
when the German fleet arrived they found just 14 suvivors from the three DD's, Alsatian was long gone, she had suffered a total of six eight cm hits and two casualties.
