One of the few bright spots in recent gaming years has been the Borderlands franchise. The original was great, and I am thoroughly enjoying the second game. Like Stalker, Borderlands is just one of those rare games where great mechanics have combined with a great (and original) lore to make something greater than the sum of its parts. So I am thrilled that in addition to the forthcoming RPG from Telltale games, we are going to get a new title to hold us over until the inevitable announcement of Borderlands 3. I present:

I can't wait to play as a Cl4P TR4P!

There are some really good ideas in this game. I love the moon-setting! I am a bit nervous that the game is being farmed out to 2K Australia, though. Clearly, Gearbox is a bit busy working on something else.

I do find it interesting that the game ISN'T being released for the next gens, just PC, XBox 360 and PS3. Strange decision, that.

Regardless, more please! :supper:

Wow Scott, this looks great! Love the almost but not quite cartoony graphics, and the setting. Is it fps/tps like the Bethesda RPG's? It looks like it is.

It is primarily a single player FPS. The first game was rather simplistic if entertaining, but the second is much more expansive. Gearbox knows they have a hit franchise and seem intent on pushing the game more and more into sandbox territory. I think that is why they are doing this side-step with a "pre-sequel" rather than rushing a full blow next-gen sequel.

Anyway, if you see the original on sale, I highly recommend it. This blog entry of mine also describes some of the things I liked about the game:

Today, IGN published the first preview:
