BoF 6.1 Resolute Defence playtest v. Ernie Cameron; German panzers lead attack to capture village.

The German force consisting of a dismounted Motorcycle company advances on foot southwestward towards the village. Encountering wire and mines it must skirt around these obstacles and cross the (54T9-57T4) road. The sound of clanking panzer tracks can be heard racing up the (57R1) road; a trio of Panzer 38(t)A tanks immediate turns left and roll across the wire.

The French remained relatively quiet during Turns 1 &2 as the Germans cautiously negotiated themselves around the wire and the mines. As the Germans scouts attempted to cross the (54T9-57T4) road, they were pinned down in a crossfire between a French 4-5-7 squad in the (54T8) building and a 60mm Mortar on the (10bDD4) hill. Later a French 9-1, 4-5-7, & HMG in the (10bGG10) building laid a fire lane down across the grain field and orchard slowing down the German advance.

The Germans reacted by bringing their Panzers 38(t)A forward to surround the French squad in the building. The panzer fire was thick with each panzer letting loose with (8FP) MG fire and a 37mm Gun. However, the French squad did not whither under the fire, instead it stood resolute, Battle-Hardening and creating a Hero in the process.

The German motorcycle troops pressed forward with a 5-4-8 squad and the 9-2 moving up to support the Panzer in the (54Z9) orchard. The French Hero “Pierre” would have none of this and peered through the hedge, spotting the German troops moving forward. Opening fire with his pistol (2FP -2) proceeded to Pin the leader and break the squad. The squad was later eliminated for failure to rout. The 9-2 leader however, deciding that the now wounded French Hero “Pierre” was far too dangerous, withdrew back to the (57Z10) woods to await reinforcements.

Far away on the hill, the 60mm mortar team spotted the German 9-2 leader moving into the wood and found a new target. Raining down mortar bombs on the woods proceeded to break, wound, and finally eliminate the leader. It was truly raining mortar bombs, with the mortar achieving a RoF of no less than 8 shots and hits on the leader, who finally succumb to the deluge of the steel rain.

Meanwhile on the German right flank, the French sniper was active, breaking and pinning 3x German HS. A German 5-4-8 with 50mm mortar was CR and Disrupted and the 7-0 leader broken by French rifle and MMG fire from the two squads located the (10bGG7 and 57EE6) foxholes, and they were forced to low crawl back behind the woods.

By the start of Turn 3, the Germans had managed to get around the obstacles at a cost of a 9-2, 5-4-8, & 2-3-8; in addition, 4x HS and 7-0 are broken. The French have lost a 4-5-8 and a Hero.

The rumble of Panzer tracks and whine of motorcycles can be heard approaching as the German Turn 3 reinforcements are coming.
