Looks like an illegal setup.

The mines are placed 4 hexes from the road. They have to set up within three hexes of the road.
Not a major deal, but still illegal.

I think you're wrong when claiming that the Canadian did not have control with the crossroads.
You dont have to move your men through everyone of the hexes.
All you need is to control them.
You control them automatically if you move into the crossroad and the adjacent hexes are open ground with no enemies in them.
If some of the adjacent hexes are buildings or foxholes, you need to control those too by moving into them.
But the open ground hexes are yours automatically if they are within your setup area (ie, not in enemy setuparea or in no mans land).
So you got cheated for two LVP's.
