Gentlement,

Some things included in BFP 3 that I was hoping would start getting discussed a little more. The importance is impact on future designs.

-DW Map concept.

-Ground Attack Aircraft

-Terrain Counters

Also note that we have found some errata, most relatively minor, and I will post a draft of it here soon.

Thank you,
Chas

I think the terrain counters, from previous comments, have been a BIG hit. Perhaps that works best in the PTO since the vast majority of the boards are not exactly made with PTO operations in mind.

I think the aircraft counters have been a big hit.. not just from BFF but from other productions. Doesn'tOtO have like 5 or 6 versions of the Il-2? hahah. We as ASL'rs eat that stuff up! Give us more variety to reflect as closely as possible to what was really being used in these battles and timeframes.

The DW map again is another winner judging on early comments... obviously I haven't been able to play on it. But I have had it across the dining room table to my wife's chagrin since Friday and have been drooling all over it... just waiting a chance to play on it. It does a lot to remove some of the inherent weakness of using 8X22 geomorph boards to simulate unique terrain and locations.

Mine isn't here yet, so I only feel like I can comment on one of these, so...

DW Maps: Yes, yes and yes again. I love the new FKM maps and I love this idea just as much. We've got a solid base of geo boards at this point, so all of these little enhancements to a still basically modular system can only help add variety. The same four copses of trees every 500 yards give a very fenced-off sense to basic geo maps and these variations help break that up.

In other news, let's retire boards 1-4 from new scenarios. If I never see the board 3 village again, it'll be too soon.

Chas;

DW Map - definately a hit, would like to see more of these (especially hills)...I really like this city map and look forward to capturing "Shitville".

Ground Attack Aircraft counters - very nice, but for me, we may have seen enough of these for now.

Terrain Counters - nice, but I have not yet had a chance to read through the contents ofthe pack yet to see how these work.

The only complaint that I have relates to the maps, and it is a minor complaint. The art work used is a little to "sanitary" looking (sorry Bruce!).

Semper Fi!

that is a big 10-4 haha.

For what it is worth of course considering my total lack of experience with the PTO...and inability to play it at this point. The terrain counters as mentioned earlier make all the sense in the world considering the need to use existing 'european' boards, the DW board speaks for itself hahah, and the aircraft... the more the merrier as far as I am concerned.

Yes to all three.
Suggestion for a DW board.

HoB's "High Ground" had a double board somewhat open hill hill. I would suggest a wooded/brushed/craggy version.

The 2 halves could mate with the 2 HG halves to give a "bald on one side, furry on the other" hill (cold wind from the north stunts the trees).

Regardless of that, 2 or 3 intervening boards could be designed:
1. A high peak (level 5/6) board.
2. A saddle back ridge with road cutting with bridge over cutting.
3. Hill top village.
The 2 halves could be used together or with one (or more) "middle" hill boards.

I like it. Nice expansion of the possibilities, even if it is limited on the "seam" so that long edge isn't geomorphic. That one minor problem (solvable with overlays or SSR if you really have issues) is more than taken care of by the whole theme of the DW board. Bring them on, perhaps a larger lake/river type DW in the next pack...

-Ground Attack Aircraft
I can take it or leave it. Most of the scenarios I play don't have air support of any type. Adding rockets to the weapon mix for planes isn't a bad thing, but I don't know how often I will use them.

-Terrain Counters
Works for rubble, and building levels, so no problems here either.

-Errata
In a product this large, I'd be surprised if there wasn't something.

Let me do the compliment sandwich:

--The double wide mapboard concept is great. I'd like to see it in the future. Perhaps a large central building--church/factory/government building?

--GA aircraft. A big no for me. It's not Airforce Leader afterall. The amount of rules and detail are not worth the effort for what is IMO rightly abstracted. An exeption was the Stuka D from OtO, which shows the unique tank killing abilitiy and was also easily understood as it was basically just using a higher TK # with the MG's.

--Terrain counters are a turnoff for me. I'd prefer hill overlays.

--To complete the compliment sandwich, the full colour scenario cards are outstanding.

I have not yet received B&J yet, so will comment on one item, aircraft counters, "generically." I don't get excited about these as it is rare a scenario actually uses them. Since airpower is abstracted in ASL, I don't want dozen's of variants of various types. It becomes more counters that don't get used and clutter up the Planos. I would prefer that counter "space" be used for something that gets used more often. JMO.

Thanks for asking.

Cheers!

DW boards, great idea.

More and more detailed ground support aircraft, also good. We go to manic levels for detail for everything else in this game, so why not.

I have not made up my mind yet about the terrain counters.

Yes to the double wide maps and I agree with all the previous comments on those.
No to more fighter aircraft counters. Too much minutia for not enough benefit. These will probably never be punched.
I am fine with the terrain counters although I'd prefer the small 1 hex overlays like you did with the debris overlays in ITR. Those were sweet! In fact I'd like to see you do some normal board sized single hex rubble overlays as well. Sometimes counters get lost in the clutter or mistaken for level 1 counters.
Really like the SW first fire, inherent first fire counters etc. in B&J. Very nice surprise.

Hi!

-Love the double map, more please....

-Terrain counters, meh I can take them or leave them (though the no smoke, no WP, no etc. counters as well as the misc. first and prep fire counters are a big plus)

-no need for more planes, this is not SPI's Air War, its squad leader, I think the abstracted air support is fine

-full color scenario cards also a huge plus!

Peace

I would pretty much reiterate what Roger said:

- Double wide map: YES
- Terrain counters: <SHRUG>
- Plane counters: Unnecessary chrome, IMO
- Color scenario cards: HELLZ YES!

- Double wide map: YES
- Terrain counters: I can take em, or leave em.
- Plane counters: um, not so much... I mean, I won't kick them out of my plano, but they are rarely used.
- Color scenario cards: Like em. I like the miniature map (with overlays) that lets you see what the terrain is. cool.
