What keyword would you recommend for location "best 1980s" rock compilations at iTunes? Some crap keeps coming up in searches.

For me the group that I associate with the 80's is ZZ Top. Even though they started in the 70's, they really hit it big in the 80's with songs like "Sharp Dressed Man".

Well, I like Billy Joel's "We didn't light the fire"... and of course I recommend every Bad Religion album of this time ;)

The hint with the GTA Vice City soundtrack is also a very good one! The music is good and I got all the CDs for just 20€, so it's also not too expensive.

These six bands instantly bring me back to the 80s, when I was a young teenager, everytime I listen to them:

1 - Pet Shop Boys (pop)
2 - Eurythmics (pop)
3 - Duran Duran (pop)
4 - New Order (electro)
5 - Genesis (rock pop)
6 - Def Leppard (hard rock)

I think each of them symbolized well the different varieties of the 80s sound.

As for individual singers, it's hard not to think about The Boss himself Bruce Springsteen, as well as Billy Idol. On the woman side, I especially liked Cindy Lauper and of course Madonna.

All the good bands playing good music in the 70s, began to sound like crap in the 80´s. Just name a band. 80s was the golden age of gothic- and glamrock, pop with cheesy FX and empty shells of great hard/heavy -rock bands of the 70s. I think popmusic is for the people that really don´t even like music, gothic is SO pathetic  and what comes to rock/heavy, there must be heart and soul involved.

But if you like heavier stuff: Saint Vitus and The Obsessed! That´s about all 80s that I listen. My PERFECT music taste skips this decade almost totally :p

MZ you need to specify what kind of music you are looking far. The 80's had a wide range of stuff. There were a few good rock bands still alive and kicking, punk and new wave were going on.
