I am trying to understand the variant counters and I have a question about the counters that came with the first edition of CH!'s Berlin module.

I see the following in the examples: Spraying fire (white dote behind SMG icon denotes no Assault fire.

Since none of the counters have white does behind the SMG icon does that mean every squad with the icon has Assault fire? Including squads with do not normally have this ability like a 6-5-8?

The example of the 6-5-8 squad has the white dot. The counters do not

The counters go like this:

A small SMG image at the top middle indicates the unit has both assault and spraying fire.
If it has a SMG and a white dot, the unit has Spraying Fire only.
If it has no SMG then it has neither spraying fire nor assault fire.

So the German 6-5-8 counters provided with the game are not consitant wtih the official counters because the unit has assault fire?

Yes, I think it is intentional they the these units have assault/spray fire whereas the normal game 6-5-8s do not.

It may have to do with them having more strumgewehrs.

The Berlin module is set in '45 when the 658 actually DID have assault fire.

658 have assault fire after '44. The counters are really only to be used for the module they are provided with - which in this case is '45 Germany.
