Looks like invasion flicks are the hot, new thing:

I am pessimistic with this one. Comments from some of the test screenings shown this year were not that good ('typical mindless action flick' was the general vibe). But I am hoping the directors take the criticism to heart and make it better.

Found a super-teaser:

Like the soundwork. :D Can't wait for the video game (or is that Crysis 2?).

I don't know, I rather like what I'm seeing in that trailer. Mind you, I don't know anything about this movie other than what I just saw in the trailer, but the battle scenes look pretty awesome. And it doesn't look like another ****ing lame Hollywood action flick full of angsty teens.

I think the potentially most interesting aspect of this film is that is seems to be on track for a series of films. Originally, it was called Battle for Los Angeles. Now it's Battle: Lost Angeles. According to IMDB, they changed the title because they are planning on a series of films that take place around the world. That could be cool.

Wow! Wow! Wow! Reminds me of the original War of the Worlds (meteorites for the win!) along with...Supreme Commander?

If the story is just a bit better than ID4, this film could be great!

I didn't like Independence Day--too cartoony and campy. So I hope this is a bit more serious than that.

Agreed. I hope this is more serious mil sci-fi. I am already happy that one of the main characters is an older staff sergeant. At least it doesn't seem that it will be all about kids with guns saving the world.

Well, it looks like yet another sci-fi bomb:

Rotten Tomatoes

33% positive reviews. :( However, 77% of RT members liked it, so....

IGN liked it:

But then again, IGN also liked the dreadful Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen. :kotz:

Well they said Avatar was awesome sauce and we know how good that movie really was, so maybe there's some hope for this one. A tiny flicker of hope? Perhaps?

Ya know, there is. One thing that kept popping up in the critical reviews was how the movie took the combat much too seriously. A bunch of critics complained about all the military jargon. I recall similar critiques being made about Black Hawk Down when it came out, too (i.e., not enough character development and too much military detail). There is a possibility that this movie was just too much Tom Clancy and not enough Tim Burton for the soft sci-fi guys (in fact, one critic actually lamented the lack of ID4 humor!).
