Very sad. I'll have to check my photo collection, but that might have been a plane I toured with my very young son years ago when it came to a local airport.

I just checked my photos and my son and I toured Nine-O-Nine back in 2004.

The original aircraft she memorialized survived 140 combat missions.

So very sad. I appreciate the living history aspect of these planes and love that we got to experience her up close and personal, but at some point does preservation need to take precedence.

My condolences to everyone involved in this tragedy.

I have fond memories of touring this aircraft over the years whenever it pays a visit to our small local airport. As I recall, when the Nine-O-Nine has visited, very often USAAF veterans have been among the passengers on the 30 minute flights. Such an immeasurable loss for so many people and their families.

Really sad. Most of all for the crew and passangers of course, but also for losing another beautiful aircraft… :(

This crash hit very close to home.

I flew in the Collings Foundation B-24J two weeks before the crash of their B-17G. I work across the street from Bradley International Airport. At 10 AM, I had an empty slot in my calendar and left my office to take a look at the Collings airplanes. I saw the big cloud of smoke and learned that 'Nine-O-None had crashed about 5 minutes earlier.

Photo that I took of 'Nine-O'Nine' two weeks before the crash.
