Hi

Couple of questions.

Does case J (no sub script number) apply to a target after it has moved to a new hex but has stopped and it is fired upon during the following DFPh?

Just checking
A hidden gun once it fires become either concealed on a coloured 4 or less or revealed on a 5 or more? No chance it can remain hidden? 16 hex LOS applies.

Yes. See C6.1... "Ordnance firing... at a vehicle which has entered a new hex... during that turn." The moment the vehicle enters the new hex, Case J applies regardless of whether it later stops.

Stopping only affects his chances of hitting you (doesn't need to C4 - double the lower dr), and allows him to gain acquisition (which wouldn't happen otherwise unless he had gyrostabilisers).

The gun cannot remain hidden. You are correct on the dice rolls mentioned in your post. Also, if you change covered arc to fire, you don't keep concealment - you are revealed immediately.

One of the main reasons you can't keep the gun hidden after it fires is because of the original SL system. Playing under G.I rules a gun could remain hidden. However, what would often happen is that a "hidden" gun would take out several targets before being exposed. It would then be discovered that the gun was either illegally placed or didn't have the proper LOS. By that point it would be too late to salvage a game. Having it immediately exposed (albeit under concealment) prevents this problem.

That's a useful observation, WaterRabbit. I hadn't thought of the reason why in this light before, but it makes a lot of sense.
