The Edmund Fitzgerald was a freighter, but who was Edmund Fitzgerald?

The President and Chairman of the Board of Northwestern Mutual Life Insurance Company, which had the ship built.

Just want to say what great room mates I had at ASLOK, both Doc Death and Rob Loper were awesome to room with and I was able to actually get some sleep lol.
