On my first attempt, I came up with a list of 28 scenarios. I'm not kidding.

After much gnashing of teeth, I whittled it down to 16.

After even more violent conversation with myself "I guess I'll cross this one out", "You can't leave that one out, idiot!", I was down to 13.

Then I noticed that exactly 3 of them are played on HASL maps, so I arbitrarily eliminated them. I have no justification for this, other than I needed to get down to 10.

So here's my list for nomination (no ranking intended; that would take me another 2 hours):
A45 Chakila Sunrise
J19 Merzenhausen Zoo
J32 Panzer Graveyard
J35 Siam Sambal
U4 Climax at Nijmagen Bridge
DB11 Dropping Like Flies
SP17 Cross of Lorraine
SP19 Men From Mars
SP73 Seregelyes Slug-Out
WCW7 Eye of the Tiger

Thanks very much as I see Panzer Graveyard and Merz Zoo on several lists.

This may be sort of a shameless plug, but I am a little suprised to not see The Slaughterhouse!??

It's in my list. I'll post my ten (with comments) when I find all the scenario numbers as I'm going from memory and insure that they've been published in 91 or earlier.

Guys, please keep them coming.

Here’s my nominations for HoF scenarios.

82 For Honor Alone - there were many good scenarios in the French module, but this is the best of the lot. Highly recommended. Go back and check this one out. You won’t be disappointed.

A60 Totsugeki – a classic chess match between the Japanese and Chinese. I’ve played it six times and would like to play it again. A true classic.

A117 Maggot Hill – PTO at it’s finest with the Japanese attacking the U.S. on the whole Nhpum Ga map. This single scenario and the enclosed map make Journal 97 a terrific value.

AP14 Ace in the Hole - Lots of replay value in this one as it’s critical that the Germans spread out and force the U.S. player to make tough choices in the splitting of his forces. The Tiger becomes the hunted rather than the hunter.

J1 Urban Guerillas - The ultimate Pete Shelling scenario that confirms his status as one of the premier scenario designers. Love the truly unique Sniper becomes a Partisan SSR.

J33 The Slaughterhouse – no respite as you start nose-to-nose and things heat up quickly from there. A classic Chas Smith rumble. The name does it justice.

ASLUG15 Mount Pissoderi - My absolute favorite of the old fanzine scenarios. Greeks attacking Italians in a tightly contested fight for the hill. Dave Sisler is one hell of a designer. Is he still designing scenarios? The perfect tournament scenario.

SP19 Men From Mars – Japanese attack Chinese then are counter-attacked by the U.S. That damned village on overlay 1 still gives me nightmares. More PTO from Schwerpunkt please.

SP47 Key to the Gate – A great, great scenario. Lots of toys. Units all over the board as Stukas are flying around, OBA is popping off, AA Guns looking for targets as they all want the bridge.

SSII:FF9 Ghost of Napoleon – Germans rush to take over the village on board 12 then must withstand a ferocious Soviet counter-attack. I love scenarios where both sides get to attack.

I already emailed these to Rob off-list (without comments), but I thought I'd
finally register on this forum instead of just lurking, and share them with the
rest of you. Here are my nominations, with added comments. I could have listed
several more worthy candidates.

Merzenhausen Zoo - I've often claimed this is my favorite scenario. Read my
analysis in the pages of Banzai 4.1.

In the Bag - Huge furball. Very popular despite its size, this one has a bit of
everything.

Smashing the 3rd - Way cool scenario highlighted by a very even tank battle.

Urban Guerillas - A tourney favorite for a long time now, a true classic.

Showtime - More innovative SSRs from Pete Shelling. A very fun scenario with more
options than usual due to the choices for sides, and bidding for the first move.
Many ways to tweak the balance if you feel one guy needs the edge. Great stuff.

Hill 253.5 - Small, but plays big.

Eye of the Tiger - This is a very well crafted tourney scenario, starting off with
a shelling of the village from a German ship, after which a tight battle is joined
with a Tiger trying to lead the assault and help protect the Pumas and MkIVs.

The Commissar's House - One of the first scenarios anyone plays (or used to back in
the day). I'll still play it at the drop of a hat.

Wintergewitter - Another small, tight tourney scenario that always seems to go down
to the wire. The German infantry force looks too small, but with all their armor
support they have just enough to do the job.

Jungle Citadel - A big nasty fight with lots of stuff going on, as a very powerful
Chinese force tries to overwhelm a smaller but very potent and entrenched Japanese
defender.

The super seven

Jungle Fighters - Fighting Withdrawal in the PTO.

Merzenhausen Zoo - Crocodile heaven or hell depending on which side you have.

Descent into Hell - Gliders landing right into the fray. One of the few I have played more than once. My only recommendation is NOT have the wind change DR on the turns the gliders come in. In my second playing I picked the wrong time to roll snakes and had the wind direction change. Twice :( Ugh.

Death at Carentan - Infantry dogpile coming from all directions. Lots of fun.

Valhalla Bound - Wreckage everywhere and when it was all said and done my German force consisted of one tank crew.

Bridge to Nowhere - Italians attacking Russians while trying to cross a bridge. Very underrated scenario.

Dogs of War - No need for me to really add anything. It's a HoF lock.

Frontal Assault- Just making sure you are still paying attention ;)

I am not participating in this vote for two reasons.

First, I believe that any such "Hall Of Fame" must be sanctioned by some official ASL selection panel, and certainly not determined from such an informal polling place as this. There are so many scenarios out there that may never get played -- precisely because there are so many scenarios -- that you would never find a selection panel with the experience broad enough to adequately rate those scenarios potentially good enough to be contenders.

Second, I believe that any true "ASL Hall Of Fame" must be Official ASL; it must have the ASL logo on it.

I realize that I am in the minority of respondents to this poll, but that is my opinion.

Regards,
Bruce Bakken
