I think the whole affair is quite simple:
The ASL Player Ratings (formerly AREA ratings - but not the waaaay back original AREA ratings...) are a ranking list based on results based on tournament games filed by tournament directors.
So if the tournament rules state that a forfeit or a 'no show' counts as a loss for the player and a win for the opponent, then this is what should be entered into the 'ASL Player Ratings'. Easy.
I could not care less about how people might attempt 'purposely' lose or forfeit to change their ratings for some perceived obscure advantage (?) or whatever. All this kind of stuff is bull**** IMHO and in my eyes reflects the 'bad' gaming in which it is not about playing but about 'winning'. Truth be told, in such cases, it is not about winning but about ego. I can only shake my head about anyone who might resort to such capers to soothe his ego.
