11] Scenario 6: Gela 1--Force X Arrives! By Michael Tisdel

Below is a scenario I wrote soon after Hollow Legions came out. It
covers the landing of Darby's Rangers on Sicily. It has now been updated
to include the beach landing rules from Gung Ho. This is the first of a
three-scenario mini-campaign. American forces surviving this scenario
are used as reinforcements in the sequel.

This scenario is based upon "Mission for Force X" by Danny W. Davis, as
published in _World War II_, November 90 issue.

------------------------------------------------------------------------
July 9, 1943, Gela Sicily:
The Allied invasion of Sicily was lead by Major General Terry de la
Mesa Allen's "Big Red One". This force included the 1st Ranger
Battalion under the command of Lt. Col. William Owen Darby -- Darby's
Rangers. As the core of Force X, Darby's Rangers lead the assault on
the beaches outside Gela, Sicily. At 3:55 a.m., Company D of the 4th
Rangers landed on beach 68 Green, facing the Italian Sixth Army, XVI
Corps. The Italians had set up a strong mine-based defense here to
stop the allies.

Board Configuration:

Aftermath:
Half of a platoon of Company D was lost to the Italian mines before
First Sergeant Randalls Harris, who took over after Lr. Walter Wojic
was killed, lead the Rangers to the cliffs inland. After catching
their breath, Sgt. Harris took one other Ranger and moved to assist
Company F, who was hung up on their right flank by Italian pillboxes.

For general information. If you are looking for old, previously internet posted scenarios, a lot can be found through the use of the internet 'wayback machine'. I was able to get a number of scenarios from the old coastal fortress website and asl crossroads (tigertank links) this way. This may have been how I got my copies of PBDYO (discussed in another thread) and Plains of Steel campaign game copies.

For old digest scenarios, some can be found on Jeff Shields' old website.

Hope this helps

I'm in the process of reformatting these three scenarios (Gela 1-3). If anyone has any questions or comments, I would be interested in them. This would be a good time for fixes.

Thanks
