Are the master files for the boards in a higher resolution than printed?

People like to make the boards a bit bigger & pay the copy shop. But the res goes down.
MMP could set up a system where people pay MMP, and the enlarged board gets printed at their local copy shop with full resolution.
That would prevent the higher res file from getting into anyone's hands.

They should just release the files for free. It's not like MMP has any problems selling ASL products.

Nice, but you cannot digitize the game without also digitizing the rules. If Hasborg would allow this, it would be easy to roll out since "hobbyists" have already done it & created indices & cross references etc.

The price MMP sells their products for is the reason they sell so much. They should double their price on everything, so they can keep their stock piles larger and thus available longer. Then, they should scrap the present day VASL system by replacing it with a new HD (photorealistic) version which functions as a frontend unit, requiring that everyone buys each module & additional ASL product separately as digital purchases. Also, all TPPs would then be required to make their plugins compatible for it first by paying royalties to MMP to have their products protected, too. Screw all the dishonest people vultching the game right now...

Uhh, this is demonstrably false for nearly every boardgame in and out of print.

What map are you having trouble finding?

I'm not having any trouble in particular. Been dreaming about larger format boards for years now. Only thing that really held me back was access to the digital files. Can't afford it anymore, though, so I'm good with what I have.

Couldn't you just take a high resolution photo of the board and do it from that? Or perhaps take the board to whoever you wanted to do the duplication?

If you scan a board under moderately high resolution and then look at it under high zoom you will see the limitations of the print process. It looks something like when you look at an LED screen under high magnification and see the individual color pixels. You're seeing the limitation of the print process.

This is why scanning a countersheet or scenario card at 800dpi will give you no real benefit over 400dpi. You are exceeding the resolution of the print process to the point that there isn't any finer detail to be captured.

SgtDan is asking if there are master files that are provided to the printer which are in a higher resolution than what the printer ultimately prints at. My guess is that higher resolution master files most likely exist but it's unlikely that MMP would make them available. Besides you can scan the existing boards you own and blow them up quite a bit without really noticing the print limitations.

Unless SgtDan is looking to make some really super jumbo boards it shouldn't be an issue. Also it's possible to use Photoshop to up the resolution to anything you want and have Photoshop extrapolate the additional pixels.
