Hello. Kesh and Danstudentvcc. Meeting Engagement.
'44 December. Bastogne is currently in German hands.
It is early in the Bulge battle.
Ca/ Dvcc vers Ge/Kesh.
Synopsis:
About the map. I was using Ectizen and Chlanda editors. I've noticed that for heights above level 3 obstruction is not possible to get a clean elevation edge.
Hence some green here and there.
Watch out for the mud and mudslides. The weather has warmed up a bit but not enough to make hazardous hexes easy terrain.
Historically: It is the Ardennes. The Battle of the Bulge. Hitlers intent is to cross the Meuse and to split the Allied command over issues on authority to command units and their supply.
Luttwitz's 3 Divisions have taken Bastogne. Middleton's command comes under spotted arty fire in town. He receives the order to retreat. His forces link up with the 82nd Airborne. The future defenders of Bastogne are given the nascent orders to maneuver.
Goebbels comes on the radio and says their Fuhrer has been quiet because he has been planning the Bulge offensive to the most minute of details. Success is theirs.
Eisenhower worries over his decision to retreat. His had been promoted to the rank of 5 stars - would this cause London and Washington to regret his assignment. His decision for retreat is based on the need to prevent a German crossing of the Meuse. He believes that by doing so he is handing over the initiative in the west to Hitler. However, he understands that the supply situation may not clear until Spring '45. The Meuse must be held.
Montgomery is everywhere trying to gain command and control authority over the local American Armies. Even the Canucks are to be placed under his command.
General Simonds of the Canadian forces gathers up all supply units, walking wounded and available Canadian forces. He hides the size of his force from Montgomery. He wishes to keep command of his Canadian, Polish and other Nations forces. He prefers that the authority to control his countries forces be handled along the chain of command. thru Ottawa.
The Germans must not cross the Meuse.
Much later during the Ardennes battles, Churchill sends out a telegraph asking Stalin to begin a wide front assault on the Germans in order to reduce the number of available German forces. Stalin gives it some thought and through channels offers Hitler a ceasefire. That the Soviets will stop at the pre-war German frontier. Hitler receives the message and agrees to the Eastern Front truce. His hands are now free to deal with the Western Front.
--hokey?! According to alternate historical scenarios this was a plausible affair. The text is nicely bound with good quality paper.
