With the advent of HTML almost de rigueur for maps I was wondering how to add white space to a map
to put all this loverly stuff.

I know this was answered before but I am not sure what the title was.

Thanks

Add blank boards to the edges is the most common.

There was some fiddly stuff that just added X pixels of white space, horizontal and vertical...

Yes, if you want to edit the board itself you can put more edge on it. You can also edit the module and increase the white region around maps but that will mess up any currently running saved games.

I would suggest (as I do to all people that try to stuff extra bits onto their boards) that you just use your browser window to hold all the scenario stuff. If you need to hold counters somewhere, use the Tray extension.

AFAIK, you unzip the board, grab the .gif file, paste that image into a larger white image, re-save the gif, drop the gif back into the board, re-zip the folder contents (exclude the folder). That in a nutshell adds an arbitrary amount of border around your image.
Then you have to account for the hexes not beginning in the upper-left of the image. I believe either the data file and/or the BoardMetadata.xml file allow you to offset the x,y. Take a look at some of the LCP HASL maps, they usually have borders that need to be accounted for.
Also be sure to set your version number to some high value so board updates don't overwrite your border.

There are also "true" blank boards (aka big white blocks).
