EU4 Azore Spot

Played this scen with 3.8.0 and PlayerDB

Upon start one of my subs immediately heard a US cruiser south of Lajes. I moved both my SS towrds this suspected amphib group.

At the same time I had ESM track on a large number of F16s North of Lajes - it looked like the expected American air defences were arriving.

I decided to plan an alpha-strike; with a group of Rafales armed with cruise missiles escorted by a SEAD group and a TARCAP group going for Lajes runway and Revetments while 2 more groups armes with ASM were going to keep the Cruiser busy.

The strike as usual did not go to plan. Initial successes included shooting down the harrier CAP and getting the cruise missile shooters inlaunch position. The 4 ALCMs dropped off the airframes and settled at 560nm at 50m alt. First nagging doubt; I knew Lajes was defended by a Patriot battery and 4 missiles is not many.
The Patriot made itself known by firing on my TARCAP. This enabled my SEAD to fire her ARMATS. However the Patriot brushed aside the ARMAT and killed both the SEAD group and the TARCAP. The cruise missiles made it to within 5nm but were shot down.

Further south the ASMs were fired at the cruiser, but history repeated itself and both the arrows and several of the archers were shot down. Black smoke and an explosion over the horizon suggested one ANS hit but the cruiser was still steaming.

Score; 13 Rafales lost at this point for no real progress to vicconds.

While this was happening my amphib group rearrnaged itself (SAM shooters in SAM-trap position) and boxed a detected Seawolf. I love it when even seawolfs just try to intercept at creep speed!

Being somewhat desperate I now stationed an undefended Hawkeye over the amphibs, counting on the Americans being reluctant to attack and aunarmed plane. This worked well and allowed me to plot intercept courses for my two SS to the two american groups carrying reinforcements.

6 hours later my subs were approaching firing positions and my second air strike was underway. This time 5 ALCMs, one Rafale with ARMAT to fire at Patriot and 3 TARCAP to draw a shot from Patriot. Lost the TARCAP again, the SEAD planes fired their antiradar missiles for no effect and the 5 ALCMs were again shot down. The supply of Patriots was obviously massive!

However the two subs drifted into the two formations and after 8 ANS-armed Rafales had sunk the FFG escorts and quickly sank 5 amphibs.

Again the sus saved the day as victory was awared quickly.

Nice and fast game and not easy!
