A8.3 Subsequent First Fire - Known enemy unit restriction

Say a unit wishes to fire again using SFF at a unit 3 hexes away, but there is an enemy unit 2 hexes away, who happens to be out of LOS of the Firer, but unconcealed, and in LOS to several other units (just not the unit firing). In other words, a Known enemy unit at 2 hex range to pretty much everyone, but not Known to the firer by virtue of being out of LOS.

Is SFF allowed in this case? If so, I've been playing this wrong for years thinking the range restriction prevented SFF. Would answer change if the unit at 2 hexes away was in LOS of the firer during the start of Mph and/or during it's move, but just happened to end it's turn out of LOS of the Firer?

Is SFF allowed in this case?

Yes it is. A unit preventing SFF due to being closer needs to be Known the the potential firer at the moment the firer wants to use SFF.
