A11.14
A SMC defends in CC as part of the group it attacks with by adding its inherent FP to the FP of the MMC stacked beneath it (EXC: A Known SMC may never defend with a concealed unit unless that unit forfeits its concealment so as to defend with the Known SMC, or vice versa]. A CC attack caunot single out one or more SMC to attack unless the SMC(s) attack(s) without an MMC, or they are attempting to withdraw (or conversely, to stand) without an accompanying MMC. Otherwise, the smallest increment which can be the subject of a single CC attack is a single MMC (plus any SMC stacked directly above it).
The language does not appear to have changed from V.1. The rule implies that two SMC attacking together without the benefit of an MMC in the location can be attacked alone or together(attacks with an MMC). The Q&A says:

A11.14 If two SMC combine their inherent FP
(without a MMC) in CC, do they automatically
defend together as a single stack? Or can their
opponents single out one of them for an
individual CC attack?
A. They defend together as a single stack.
[Gen22.5; An95w; An96; Mw]
Since the Q&A is no longer official, is this interpretation still valid? Specifically, is this how it is played?

A11.14 2nd ed. 3rd sentence:

"Any number of SMC may combine with a MMC or other SMC to make a CC attack [EXC: vs vehicles] and to defend by adding their inherent strength together ..."

The old QA may/may not still be valid depending on how the 1st edition rules were written .. I'm assuming the 1st edition did not have that sentence & thus this clarification/errata was subsequently added to the 2nd edition, making the old QA obscolete for 2nd edition ASLRB holders.
