After many delays, my review of Chessmaster XI: Grandmaster Edition is finally posted:

Chessmaster XI

Now I know why there are so few reviews of chess software packages! Reviewing one of these items is less like doing a game review and more like reviewing an OS!

Anyway, I hope it proves helpful.

I'm reading this reivew at work tomorrow ...

slightyly off topic ... does anyone play speed games of like 10 mins per side? I do against CM just to get 2 or 3 games in a half hour period.

I do occassionally, but usually run into time trouble and wind up throwing the whole game with a series of panicked moves. My brain just can't work that fast. My preferred fast time control is 20 minutes, which is just enough for me to actually accomplish something.

I think much of speed chess is memorizing patterns in the openings of choice. If you can get your opponent into a variation that you know cold then you can rattle off many moves without even having to stop and think creatively.
Of course, the more you play the better you get at it I think.
