Missing things like not using the newest version (due to factors listed before) does not invalidate the hypothesis that ASL players are above average detail orientated. The detail level in ASL is enormous and players, though much better than most in handling detail, may still become swamped. We've all experienced the "can't see the woods for the trees" (and visa versa) syndrome in our lives,

Yes, once in a chess tourney, my opponent spent 10 minutes of his clock time contemplating his move.

I was distraught as I saw a move for him that would lead to unavoidable checkmate in a couple of moves.

I thought it was obvious, he never saw it, made another move and eventually lost the game.
