Guys – Can someone help me out with a project? Can anyone tell me _exactly_ what the ’92 replacement pages for Chapter F added / changed / removed? I know that the ’92 pages affected rules F.2A, F.8, F.10, etc. based on the black dot in the margins, but I don’t know exactly what was changed. It appears that way back when, I tossed the original Chapter F pages that were replaced by the ’92 pages (in Hollow Legions, IIRC), so I can no longer compare the two.
I’d really appreciate any details anyone could provide. Thanks in advance.
Here are all the changes I can see, big, small, or downright trivial... except for a trivial punctuation mark or two.
In the new (that is, the '92 version) F.2A, the exception says,
[EXC: Hammada Immobilization (3.31) and Sand Bog (7.31) can still apply; an Alternate Terrain Type (13.) takes precedence.]
In the old F.2A, the exception used to say,
[EXC: Hammada Immobilization (3.31) and Sand Bog (7.31) can still apply.]
The old EX following F.3 says:
EX: As per A26.21, but excluding points for its crew (if any), a German 37L AT is worth two points if eliminated, as is an 88L AA. Likewise, a PzKpfw IVF2 is worth four, an SdKfz 7 is worth one point, and an SdKfz 7/1 is worth two. However, if DVP are specified, the point value of these pieces when eliminated becomes as follows: 37L AT, three; 88L AA, six; PzKpfw IVF2, eight; SdKfz 7, two; SdKfz 7/1, six. Any Inherent Crew eliminated/exited with a vehicle is worth another two points (or one point if an Inherent HS).
So, if you compare closely to the new, you'll see that changes include the mention of "armor leader" in the first sentence, several mentions of "a maximum of" __ points in the second, and the increase in value of the Inherent HS from one to two in the last.
In the new F.4, where it says,
...in North African scenarios (as defined in 11.2) set prior to October 1941...
the original F.4 just said,
...in North African scenarios set prior to October 1941...
This change matched F.4 to the definition of "North Africa" given in F.5.
F.7A, last sentence: The words,
...can incorporate only one A-P/A-T minefield, regardless...
used to say,
...can incorporate only one minefield of one strength, regardless...
F.8
passim, old version, says:
F.8 FREE FRENCH: Free French Personnel use British counters and rules [EXC: Free French squads have Assault Fire (A7.36) capability in 1944-45, and the A25.45 immunity to cowering does not apply to them]. They are generally considered elite. Their OBA lands accurately on a Final dr of <=2. See also F.8A-.9.
F.8A PRE-1944 EQUIPMENT: For scenarios set in or prior to 1943, Free French use (without Captured-weapon penalties) British SW, vehicles, Guns, and the rules covering them. For such DYO scenarios they also use the British SW and OBA Availability Charts.
F.8B 1944-45 EQUIPMENT: For scenarios set in or after 1944, Free French use (without Captured-weapon penalties) U.S.-built British-color SW (F.9), U.S. vehicles, U.S. Guns, and the rules covering them [EXC: Free French Inherent (only) crews are considered British when determining their morale as per D5.1]. For 1944-45 DYO scenarios, Free French use the U.S. Army SW and OBA Availability Charts [EXC: they receive 1944 BAZ in 1945 scenarios].
F.9 U.S.-BUILT, BRITISH-COLOR SW: U.S. MMG, HMG, .50-cal HMG, M2 60mm mortars and BAZ 44 have been provided in the British color, and are identified by having "(a)" in their piece name. They are used by Free French in 1944-45 scenarios. The mortar and BAZ are also used in 1944-45 scenarios to represent one Scrounged (D10.5) from a U.S.-built vehicle/wreck [which includes one with "(a)" in its piece name] by Free French (only); other nationalities would scrounge a U.S.-color mortar/BAZ. The MG are also used in 1944-45 scenarios to represent one Removed (D6.631) from a U.S.-built vehicle by a British (as defined in A25.4) unit. Regardless of the scenario's date, a MG Scrounged by any nationality from any U.S.-built or British-built vehicle/wreck takes counter form as a British LMG, with no captured-use penalties when being used by a U.S. or British (A25.4) unit.
This group of paragraphs contains lots and lots of small changes and was totally reorganized; you get to compare to the newer text yourself to find them all, since just trying to read the '92 equivalent pages makes my head hurt...
The new version of F.10 ends with the sentence, "A vehicle may attempt to use vehicular smoke grenades
or a smoke dispenser, but not both, during the same MPh." This whole sentence was absent in the older version.
Earlier in the F.10 paragraph, following the discussion of needing to roll a 1 for certain vehicles, a 2 for others, and a 6 has no additional effect, the new text says:
...if successfully placed, a 1/2" Smoke counter is placed in the vehicle's own Location and treated as per A24.11; if placed during...
The old text said:
...successfully placed smoke grenades use a 1/2" Smoke counter, treated as per A24.11, and; if placed during...
In other words, the old version gave the appearance that one might be able to throw the smoke grenade into an Adjacent Location, since you can do so using the normal A24 procedure. The new version clarified how it's
actually supposed to work.
Lastly, F.12 is now titled "
CHAPTERS A-E" but used to be titled "
OTHER CHAPTERS". {whoop-de-doo...}
