Well the 7th annual hallowed ground ASL tournament is in the books. Ken Daughty and I arrived Wednesday night and got in a playtest. Others started milling in around dinner time. Chris Schultz prepared a summer feast on the grill and we settled in for the usual socializing. Ken Mioduski arrived with the memorial glasses early Thursday along with more attendees. First round was scheduled for 4PM but many started earlier. Ken Daughty brought his famous BBQ and Chris prepared some awesome Maryland Crab Soup. Again, more drinking. We toasted John's memory with 15 year Dalwhinnie scotch and then moved on to 15 year Bushmills and Angels Envy bourbon. (We may have a problem). To boot, Jack Daniels brought a BBoB (big box of booze) and made a fantastic rum/lime concoction. Kevin Meyer showed up Friday morning and being odd man out was forced to play yours truly for round 2. I would also have to play Ken Mioduski in Round 3 as we were still at an odd number. Saturday morning Chris dropped out to attend to personal things, so I wouldn't have to play and could concentrate on the rounds. Last round concluded by 11PM and the awards ceremony followed after which we retired to the firepit for some last evening celebration. (I really think we might have a "problem"). I believe everyone had a great time and we sincerely thank Christina (the Goddess of Gettysburg) Fallin Dober for her continued support and hospitality. Here are the final results:
1st Place: Randy Rossi with 590 pts. at 5-0
2nd Place: Rob Loper with 470 pts at 4-1 (An amazing comeback after having lost the first round)
3rd Place: Ken Daughty with 350 pts at 3-2
4th Place: Ron Duenski with 340 pts. at 3-2 (in a tiebreaker)
5th Place: Brian Martuzas with 340 pts. at 3-2 (after a quick start)
6th Place: Will Willow with 260 pts. at 2-3 (also after a quick start)
7th Place: Ken Mioduski with 250 pts at 2-3
8th place: Kevin Meyer with 240 pts at 2-2 (Didn't play first round)
9th Place: Gary Bartlett with 220 pts at 2-3
10th Place: Ed Akehurst with 210 pts at 2-3
11th Place: Jack Daniels with 100 pts. at 1-4
12th Place: Eric Winter with 100 pts. at 1-4
13th Place: Chris Schultz with no points at 0-3 (scratched for last two rounds)
14th Place: Dave Ginnard with 240 pts. at 2-0 (filling rounds 2 and 3 due to odd amount of players) (these wins and points were irrelevant except to the opponents)
Randy received a copy of Twilight of the Reich for his 1st place finish along with plaque. Randy also received the coveted sniper ace plaque with 9 pts.
Rob Loper received the Winter Offensive Pack #15 with the deluxe boards for his 2nd place finish along with plaque.
Ken Daughty received a HazMo City of Steel pack for his 3rd place finish along with plaque. Ken also received the Bad mechanic plaque (most malf's) with 7 pts.
Brian Martuzas received the HazMo Scenarios for Tournament Play pack with boards for playing the Hazmo scenario selection in all five rounds.
And, lastly, Jack Daniels was awarded the 7th annual John Dober Sportmanship plaque for his gracious demeanor, companionship, and his BBoB. (lol).
As TD, I would like to thank Chuck Hammond and Chad Cummins of HazMo for donating two fantastic scenario packs as prizes. I would also like to thank the guys at MMP for donating Twilight of the Reich and WO pack #15. I personally continue to support these people as they are a credit to our hobby. Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!!!
Thank you to all attendees for continuing to support John's dream. And special thanks to Christina, who for some unexplainable reason, allows old men to invade her home every July.
