The 6th annual Hallowed Ground ASL tournament is now in the books,
Early arrivals on wednesday got in some open games and socializing. Tournament play got underway thursday.
When the smoke cleared saturday night, Randy (the mad scientist) Rossi had surgically dissected 5 worthy opponents for 62 points and a runaway victory. Carl (the mass mauler) Noriega finished in second with 47 points, and Ron (the new jersey nightmare) Duenskie finished in third with 34 points.
5 players tied for 4th with 24 points. I haven't done the tiebreakers on these.
Rob Loper garnered the sniper ace plaque with 13 kills in 5 games.
Brian (Tooz) Martuzas repeated as the Bad Mechanic with 13 malfs.
Brian also received the John Dober III Sportmanship Award for supplying an amazing commemorative banner, aiding in organizing John's many ASL counters, and, well, for just being a great all around human being.
Surprise non playing guests Ken Daughty with his son and daughter in tow, and our esteemed colleague, Gary Fortenberry stopped in to say hello,
Thanks to Ken (Purple Haze) Mioduski for again supplying the amazing tournament memorial glasses. They got a lot of use from the outstanding bar.
Thanks also to Jack (I am never going to really retire) Daniels for his exquisite taste in liquor. (The irish cream was to die for).
Thanks, also, to Ed Akehurst for his contributions to this event and Alan Findlay of Broken Ground for supplying bling.
Thanks to all attendees for continuing to keep John's memory alive.
And finally, thanks and appreciation to Christine Fallin Dober for again opening up her home and hospitality to make this event possible.
The older I get, the more I respect time spent with the greatest friends in the world.
Pardon any misspellings or bad grammar. It has been a grueling week of great food, drink, and ASL.
