Hey All,

I have always played the .50 Cal used the 12.7 column on the AP To Kill table when firing as ordnance. In our current game that came into question and I have been unable to find any reference to it in the rules. I wonder if I have been playing it wrong. Is the .50 Cal a 12.7 or a MG on the AP TK table?

.50" and 12.7 are identical for all ASL purposes (and 1/2 inch = 12.7mm exactly).

12.7 also covers what historically were 13.2mm (French and derived weapons including Japanese).

Added history:

There are a number of distinct 12.7/13.2mm development lines.

US 50 Cal - The M2 is still in use to this day. 12.7x99mm cartridge.
USSR 12.7mm - The DShK also still in use. 12.7x108mm cartridge.
UK 0.50" - A Vickers cartridge, used in Tanks, AC and naval AA mounts. The same 12.7x81mmSR cartridge was used by the Italians and Japanese, mainly in aircraft MGs. The weakest of the lot, out of use after WW2.
French 13.2mm - Mainly used in ground and naval AA mounts by French, Japanese and Italians with a few AFV mounted. 13.2x96mm cartridge.
German 13mm - The German MG 131, an aircraft gun. With its lowish muzzle velocity and use of HE rounds, it's more a light cannon than a MG. 13x64mmB cartridge.

Thanks everyone. Awesome info Paul. I have some personal experience with the Ma Deuce, also with the Soviet DshK and the KPV 14.5 having spent 20 years as a grunt in the U.S. Army. The KPV was a fearsome weapon to fire.

I bet it was!

I didn't include the Czech 15x104mm as used in the BESA 15mm as it has its own ASL entry. The Soviet 14.5x114mm was their ATR round (PTRD-41, PTRS-41) and only only got used in MGs starting with the KPV (basis of ZPU-1, -2 and -4) in '49, so post war.

I should have noted "SR" = semi rimmed, "B" = belted, no letter = rimless, as part of the cartridge designation in my last post.

Doesn't the To Kill Chart (Chapter C) say something like: "12.7: 50. Cal MG".
