Hello,
I am having LOS issues with VASL 5.5 which didn't exist for me in 5.4.3.

It works normally with the boards loaded normally but if I flip a board then it starts to have problems. Hexes that should be visable are blocked, hexes that shouldn't be seen are shown as unblocked. My first thought was that even though the board was flipped , the LOS tool was using unflipped to calculate between two hexes. With a little experimenting this doesn't seem to be the problem.

example, board 2 w4 to q1 blocked. It is from a bush hex down a straight road.

hill tops, board 2 y6 to m5 blocked. There is nothing in between.

Is any else having problems with the LOS tool.

I have tried reloading boards after setup, reinstalling boards, reinstalling 5.5 with out any success.

Any one with any other ideas that could help me.

regards

Pete

Here is a solution.

  1. Turn your computer off.
  2. If you have a LCD screen unplug it from your PC.
  3. Reach down and put your arms around to the rear of your PC.
  4. Pick it up.
  5. Now throw it to the ground shouting "bad computer!".
Not saying it will work, but it just might. :clown:

Thanks Rod,
I've always been envious of the Vogons. Needless violence worked for them.

Resistance is useless.

Pete

ps, you going to the Tactics Tornament?

Ahem, who is this "Rod" person? ;)

Maybe, maybe not. Sister-in-law was getting married that weekend but that has been brought forward owing to an illness in the family so I might be in the grieving process at tht time anyway. Just dunno ATM.

My question is, is there a problem with 5.5 LOS?

If yes, then I will put up with it until fixed.
If there is no problem, do I regress to 5.4.3?

Welcome to 5.4.3 again. Unfortunately there are a lot of returners from 5.5 because of the LOS problem.

The new problem now is a thing like that:

" I want to use 5.4.3 again, but once 5.5 has been loaded, I cannot get this PC going started with my desired 5.4.3 :upset: .. Please, forgive me, I really wanted to be with you,... it was only a while and I´ll never do it again..." And more things like that..

The counterman posted elsewhere that you just need to reset the boards. "Pick new boards" - select the same boards again - crop them again - SSR them again -- etc.

It takes about 3 minutes to convert the boards 5.5 ready with multiple boards that require SSR changes (that VASL can address).

Hi Larry,
I tried that. It failed to work.

Hi Miguel,
I am running both 5.4.3 and 5.5 at the moment. Obviouly, 5.5 is my preferred, I very much like the ELR function (I always seem to roll high on the MC).
I find the LOS in 5.5 frustrating more than anything, but I can work it out myself if need be.

Hi Larry

It still fails on flipped boards. Maybe a problem with matrix for coordinates transforming...

The problem with LOS check is that because of the zoom limit we have to be all the time rolling dice to see if LOS is blocked or no. :OHNO:

Problem solved. How, I don't really know. I did an uninstall and then reloaded with the same result. Did another uninstall and reload another day and know it works just fine.

COMPUTERS ! Ahh.
