Usually in Albany the complex PBS are released many months in advance, while here they are not available one month before the event.
Changing the rules one month before the event may be perceived as disrespectful for those which have already booked their trip. Some may consider it is not a critical element, but it is a substantive one. And since 95% of the registered players have never been at Albany, you'll have some explanatory work to do on the spot i guess. Just my two euro-cent

The change was neither intended or perceived as disrespectful by me and Michael. We like the system we tried at Albany and decided to copy it for ASO 2017. We did not consider it a dramatic change or expect people to be upset about it. We are very sorry if that is the case and people decide against coming to our tournament.

It is a pretty straight forward system, imo. I blatantly stole the PBS example from the Albany Website and put it into our rules.

For as long as I can remember there's been balancing bidding at ASO and traditionally we at ASO have released our ABS balances around February 1st. 3-4 weeks prior to the tournament. I haven't discussed a particular date for it with Michael since we spoke this weekend, but I would be surprised if we didn't have it ready February 1st. It is in the works.

I am saddened if you don't show up for ASO this year, but we are sticking to it for this edition of ASO.

Should "J170 - Red Churchills (F16/G5)"
instead be
"J170 - Red Churchills (F16/R5)"?

And I think bidders should be reminded to check out the ASO SSRs for the affected scenarios.

It should. Typo. Lazy webmaster who didn't proofread it properly :)
You are right of course, the ASO SSR is significant. It is on our webpage. We will as always hand out scenario packs at the tournament with all the relevant information summarized for each round. So, hopefully we will be alright.

Thanks for pointing it out :)

The tournament is underway
It is ground snow conditions in Copenhagen, 24 players are preparing for the early start scenarios in round 1. Later another 18 players will join and play the late start first round for a total of 42 players in the main tournament.

What a difference 3 years make.
In 2014 we introduced the scenario Katushya's embrace (J168) in our secret round as an unpublished scenario. No one would play it back then ... this time around there will be 7 playings in the first round. There are also 4 playings of the Last Tiger and 1 playings of The T-Patchers.

Lots of happy faces in the room and lots of complaining about the sun. We are boardgamers after all.

Scandinavian Open 2017 has come to an end.

After 5 days of gaming we found a familiar winner - Melvin Falk. In a wide open tournament we found ourselves in the unusual situation of having 3 undefeated players going into the 5th and final round.

Mikko Lukkari suffered his first loss of the tournament at the hands of Mathias Bergwall in an exciting game of Slaughter at Krutik. Therefore the game between Melvin and dane Kenneth Knudsen would decide the outcome of the tournament in their game of "Abandon ship!". After some intense fighting around the roadblock Kenneth will surely rue some missed opportunities to get across the gully and secure the win. So, in the end the experienced Melvin Falk found a way to win the game and win ASO once again. Congratulations Melvin.

The tournament featured 40 players in the main tournament and another 10 players, mostly local Danish, the tournament directors and a handful of swedes made an appearance to take our numbers to 50 total. A pair of new Norwegians, a pair of Swedes and a new Danish player provided some fresh excitement and enthusiasm to the event.

Thanks to all those who attended and help make ASO 2017 yet another successful event. We are already looking forward to 2018 where we will once again offer an extended tournament. 2 days of friendly gaming followed by 3 days of the classic ASO tournament. The dates for the 2018 tournament will be February 28th through March 4th 2018.

Winner - Melvin Falk
4-1 players - Mikko Lukkari, Kenneth Knudsen, Mattias Bergwall, Arnaud Sanchis

The final standings will be posted here in the forum and on our website within the next few days. Results will be submitted to the AREA rankings and results of the scenarios will be added to the ROAR.
