It’s the tournament director’s dream. In round 7, the last undefeated, Steve Pleva loses to John Garlic.

There are 3 matches that will determine who wins this year’s ASL OPEN.

Steve currently has 83 points.

Since Jonas Bjorkvist has already won his match which gives Steve another point there.

Steve is also assured of at least one more point since two of his prior defeated opponents are playing each other in Round 7 (Rich Domovic v Wes Vaughn) which will give Steve an additional point.

Should Jim Manfredi win his game against Maurizio Grassi, Steve will get another point for that game.

There is one other match that is critical to both Steve and John as explained below.

Steve is assured of 85 points with the possibility of gaining 2 more points.

John by virture of defeating Steve has 85 points.

James Holt won his Round 7 game giving John one additional point, for a current assured total of 86 points.

Should Larry Rohlfing win his Round 7 game, John will gain an additional point for a possible 87th point.

Now for the kicker:

John defeated Chip Wertenberger in Round 2.

Steve defeated Jonathan Kay in Round 5.

Chip and Jonathan are playing each other in Round 7.

The winner of that match will give one point to either Steve of John.

Steve’s maximum possible total is 87.

John’s maximum possible total is 88.

We won’t know the winner until all the above games are completed.

Good grief, it sounds like you may need to call in Price Waterhouse when the dust settles!

John Garlic comes back from his Round 3 loss in Round 7 to best Steve Pleva, last year’s and 4 time ASL OPEN champion.

Steve and John finished with 87 points.

The first tie breaker is the total of all points of all defeated opponents see the attachment.

In round seven Steve gained 4 out of a possible 5 additional points from his defeated opponents.

In round seven John gained only 2 out of a possible 5 additional points from his defeated opponents.

As it is, by virtue of strength of schedule, Steve’s overall strength of opponents, Steve remains the eASL OPEN Champion, for his 5th win.

John takes second place and Jonathan Kay finishes third.

15 players finished with 4 or more wins which sets the top of next year's OPEN.

46 players started and 41 finished the 7th round.

See the attachment below for the final standings.

Also attached is the scenario report. Shortly, as tournament director, I will be updating these results to ROAR.

All the results have already been submitted to the ASL Players Rating.

Congratulations to Steve, John and all.

Next year, John and Steve by starting one - two, well it should be very interesting!
