seems much ado over minimal issues, TBH. As noted previously by CASLA players, one hopes that non-Canadian entrants such as myself, have cleared the decks for action in order to compete. A tournament is not casual play, and tournament ASL is typically as much about endurance as ability.

It seems extremely clear.... Per the TD:

"...the round starts at 0900h CST and ends at 2300h CST. The window is based on CST or Winnipeg time. It is expected the matches will be complete within this time window and there is not going to be any leniency on that time frame. We are expecting those in a relatively extreme time difference are able to accommodate this window. ..."

That means for me at PDST, the rounds begin at 0700 of the day and end at 2100 of the same day. For a player in London, the rounds begin at 1500 of the day and end at 0500 the next morning (UTC+1). Those deadlines are firm, without leniency. If you cannot conform to the deadline, the game is then subject to adjudication by the TD and the TD decision becomes final.

Pretty simple to follow. Just Sayin,

Hi folks. Unfortunately for everybody, I am the actual TD.

Finish times will be pretty closely adhered to. Always 2300 CDT.

That's so I can determine the next round's pairings ASAP and get them out to participants, hopefully within an hour (if there are no adjudications).
If I get the fresh pairings out within an hour or so (midnight here in Winnipeg), participants can then arrange some time other than 8 or 9 hours later to start, IF THEY BOTH AGREE.
Otherwise, they'd both better be around VASL at 9 am.

The Minis will be easier, because you'll know in advance who you'll face in each round.

But, if a pair of players cannot find a time they can both agree on, who's in the VASL room at 9 am that day will matter.

I really hope I don't have to police any of this stuff.
The CASLO is based on Winnipeg time, and only you know how relevant that is to your life.
Your registration, I presume, is predicated on your availability within these constraints.

The first 3 rounds of the main tournament are each a week long. There will (probably) be no attendance-checking at 9 am on the first day of these rounds. We're all (mostly) adults.

Good luck to all, and may the registrations continue!
Last I heard, we're up to 40!

Steffen Knippel
Worst TD Ever

PS: I buried the lede. Updated CASLO XXV tournament rules should be on the canadianasl.org web site tomorrow or Sunday.

I want to emphasize something easy to miss in the rules document. Participants are required to submit their scenario choices and side choices for all five rounds to Steffen no later than April 29.

might be a good idea to email the April 29 deadline out, as it is not in the rules document i downloaded about an hour ago.

Round 3 Scenario MP12 A Worthy Adversary has an undefined condition
The River is Deep with a Mild Current - in ASL there is no such thing as a Mild Current
There is Heavy, Moderate, Slow

The scenario card has an incorrect depiction of the T-40
The Russian colour is incorrect (not an issue except that I original though that they were Americans)

Hi folks. We're going to publish known errata and answer some scenario questions in advance (as we become aware of them) at https://canadianasl.org/scenarios/

April 29 is now the deadline for registering for the main tournament at https://canadianasl.org/how-to-register/
April 29 is also the deadline for notifying the TD of your scenario and (optional) side selections for each and every round.

Registrations for CASLO minis (taking place May 21-23) will be accepted until May 13.

Hi folks. I sent out the pairings for round 1 about an hour or two ago. If you haven't got them yet, let me know.

Anyone have log files for their games they'd like to share after the round?

Round 2 pairings:

The most popular matchup is J167 Hart Attack:

John Lehman (Allies) vs. Andre Escobedo (German)
David Howarth (Allies) vs. Rob Wirthlin (German)
Jonas Bjorkqvist (Allies) vs. Matt Keurejian (German)
Greg Barsness (Allies) vs. Andrew Young (German)
Kalle Widell (Allies) vs. Jon Halfin (German)
Wai-Kwong Wong (Allies) vs. Doug Rimmer (German) [Doug remains the inflatable emergency player]
David Wolfe (Allies) vs. Jimmy Engren (German)
Jean-Francois Fortin (Allies) vs. Jonathan Kay (German)
Erik Lindblad (Allies) vs. Jeff Wasserman (German)
Steve Slunt (Allies) vs. Neal Ekengren (German)

Everybody’s happy, and presumably got the side they wanted.

The second most popular scenario is J142 Penny Packets:

Francois Guerette (German) vs. Brian Wiersma (US)
Stephen Stewart (German) vs. Peter Rogneholt (US)
Nick Faryna and Will Willow both wanted US: roll for it, loser gets Germans with balance
Paul Chamberland vs. Gerry Proudfoot: roll for it, loser gets US with balance
David Goldman vs. David Garvin: roll for it, loser gets US with balance
Andy Beaton vs. Daniel Braund: roll for it, loser gets US with balance

FrF42 Kiss of Fury:

Bruno L’Archeveque (German) vs. Andrew Luden (Russian)
Darren Kovacs vs. Blake Ball both wanted Germans: roll for it, loser gets Russians with balance
John F. Garlic vs. Rich Jenulis both wanted Russians: roll for it, loser gets Germans with balance

AP55 The Generalissimo’s Own:

Rich Domovic (Chinese) vs. Michael Rodgers (Japanese)

Nine players had 203 Hard Rok among their choices, but they didn’t find each other this round.

Will the round 1 pairings for the minis be available soon, or do they have to wait for round 2 of the main tournament to wrap up?

Yes, round 2 needs to wrap up first, as a loss in either of the first two rounds entitles the players to join one of the minis.
