Odd collection of WWII material regarding the Japanese & the War in the Pacific

Including articles from Life Magazine, US Army documents, newspaper clippings, and miscellany: http://www.bookmice.net/darkchilde/japan/war.html. There are some broken links, e.g. http://www.bookmice.net/darkchilde/japan/855.html, that can be fixed by adding "War" to the page name, e.g...

APh: enter a trench then move to adjacent trench

In the Advance Phase can a unit enter a trench in its starting hex then Advance into a trench (or connected pillbox or, in certain historical modules, building) in another hex? It would not be changing Locations twice. JR

    WO33 One-Eyed Jacques

My opponent, who took the French, said he had a very hard time setting up the defense in this scenario from the 2020 Winter Offensive pack. I can see why. To win the Germans must either control a factory (J10, ten hexes in size) in the middle of the board (immediate win) or have more...

    WO33 One-Eyed Jacques SSR1 Vehicular Road Rate n/a

Per SSR1, Vehicular Road Rate (B3.41) is n/a. We took that to mean the cost of entering a road hex was Open Ground, i.e. 1 MP for fully tracked and 3 MP for the armored car. Narrow streets were two MP and six MP respectively. Does that sound right? JR

    Revealing a HIP roadblock

This q&a says: That suggests that in this case the roadblock is revealed: while in this case the roadblock remains HIP even though both roadblocks cover the same hexside: Is that correct? JR

AFVs and fortified buildings that are not yet known

    How many Prep Fire counters?

ASLSK#3 3.2.5 "After resolving each attack during the PFPh, the firing unit (and Weapon) is marked with a Prep Fire marker." If a unit has a MG with ROF and fires its inherent at one unit while firing its MG at another, keeping ROF three times, is it marked with one Prep Fire marker or five? JR

    Jackpot Jones HF6

I kept doing double-takes on this scenario because I could have sworn I had played it before. After a while I realized it was separated at birth from Bertoldo the Brave, which I had played. Or perhaps the mini-me version. I had the Germans by dr. The Americans can rubble two hexes. My opponent...

    Code talkers

The World War II code talkers are perhaps more well known, but the first American code talkers were Choctaw in World War I (also: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Choctaw_code_talkers). JR

    Pomeranian Tigers [SP11]

I don't remember how this scenario came up, but we picked this early Schwerpunkt gem. We rolled a die, and I ended up with the Germans. Doug, my opponent, said he has a Pomeranian and so had an advantage. I asked for the balance but was rebuffed. Doug set up the Soviets. Per the SSRs the Soviets...

Difference between the "a" and the "b" board sides

A bit of trivia I learned at Winter Offensive 2020. Someone asked about the difference between the "a" and "b" sides of the tall, half-wide boards (01a/01b - 13a/13b). Chas Argent happened to be there to explain. Besides the obvious difference in hex row labeling (A-Q vs Q-GG), the difference in...

DC vs AFV: DRM on TK DR?

For a placed DC attack not against an AFV the various DRM apply on the effects DR. A CX unit placing a DC will have a +1 DRM for CX (in addition to all the other DRM) on the IFT roll. As best I read there are no DRM on the TK/effects DR when a DC is placed vs an AFV. For instance if the placing...
