    Dad's Army scenario

Mainwaring is a very interesting character. He's pompous and has an exaggerated sense of self-importance and a chip on his shoulder about his social status, but tends to have his men's backs when the chips are down, and seems quite proud and fond of the platoon, which is his only escape from his...

    War in the Ruins

If you have a copy of "Armageddon" by Max Hastings, there's a brief description of an action near Konigburg where an SS officer called Siwik rounded up some Volkssturm and temporarily held off an attack by infantry and T-34s. I thought it might make an interesting asymmetrical scenario. Maybe...

    Dad's Army scenario

This would definitely require some SSRs. DON'T PANIC!: Any unit stacked with Corporal Jones has -1 morale for one turn while he freaks out, and then +1 for the next turn after calming him down. WE'RE DOOMED! DOOMED, I TELL YE! Any unit stacked with Private Fraser suffers -1 morale. I SAY, WOULD...

Music: what are you Listening to now?

She's singing about lazing in her bubble bath, thinking about the things that she's fed up with, such as moany people, obsessives, cynics, food she doesn't like and...being fed up.

Fire Group Cowering and Fire Lane

Yes the first sentence I understand - even if the rule doesn't seem to make a lot of sense. I don't see why they aren't all just marked with Prep Fire counters except for the ROF-rolling SW's of those MMCs that didn't cower. Anyway, thanks for the clarification in the second sentence. I'll play...

Fire Group Cowering and Fire Lane

Not only that, but if some units are deemed by RS not to have cowered and not to have a Prep/Final Fire counter placed, do they then get to shoot again? That's what the rules seem to say.

Maps for walled village/town in Italy?

I've passed, but not yet visited, Monteriggioni (near Siena) a few times, and it looks like it would make a fun ASL map: San Gimignano is a larger walled town that I've visited and I can tell you that accessing the town from one of the lower car parks can feel like enough of an assault in...

    Why the ASL hate?

I suppose it seems natural for the unititated to assume that waergamers are "pro-war" but in fact I've found that it's less likely to be the case, especially among wargamers who have studied their subject. Being interested in something doesn't mean you approve of it, any more than fans of Agatha...

So what scenarios have you played Recently?

I played A59 Death at Carentan (solo) last weekend. Very fast-moving and unpredictable. i thought it would be easy enough for the Germans, but they effectively were wiped out with very little loss to the Americans.

    Smoke question

I had been thinking that if you're in a building and a smoke shell lands just outside, then it wouldn't interefere with people shooting at each other indoors. 😀
