    MMP Roundtable 7 notes - February 2025

In the Hatten rules, you never completely 'lose' the OBA you paid for and (with near mathematical certainty) will eventually get all of your Black chits out ...

CANCON 2025 Aussie ASL tournament AAR

Hi! Thank you to the 22 participants of CANCON 2025, the official Australian ASL tournament run in late January on the long weekend covering the Australia Day holiday. This tournament has been running for over three decades in Canberra, the capital of Australia (more or less on the east coast)...

Hi. Noticed your comment regarding Hatten and the need for 'footnotes'. Anything in particular? The website provides a detailed and accessible account of the battle. I would be happy to provide feedback on designer's intent via direct messaging or respond via a Games Squad post. Andy

    2025 CANCON - Australian ASL Open - Jan 25-27

The post (and the subsequent date error) was made when I was under the influence of COVID ... good luck with the Winter Offensive ... As to the lack of Aussie registrations, it might also have something to do with US East Coast weather in the middle of January ... just sayin' Andy

    2025 CANCON - Australian ASL Open - Jan 25-27

Team ASL We have a good number of subscribers already for the ASL tournament to be held at CANCON 2025, one of the largest gaming tournaments in Australia. We have been running this tournament for over 30 years. If you are interested, please book through the following link...

    Thoughts?

Good point. Part of the problem with the ASL terrain is that you cannot create 'dead ground' or 'undulating ground' for broken/retreating units to move into to escape fire and recover. You have to create extra woods, buildings as an alternate.

I am thinking about creating a new terrain type for a new PTO HASL: A Hillock on top of a Hillock . Thoughts?

    Japanese SMG Squads!

MMP and new counters: With Journal 14 and the Sparrow Force HASL, the Aussie designers had a opportunity to pitch MMP for the early 1942 scenarios with Japanese naval paratroopers to have 'new' Japanese counter(s) that would reflect possible SMG use and a morale of '8'. As indicated in the...

    Japanese SMG Squads!

Good discussion. When we did the research for the 1942 Japanese paratroopers for the Sparrow Force CG (in Journal 14), the evidence suggested that it was probably unlikely they had any (at most very few) automatic weapons (SMGs) at this stage in the war. It was more of a later war thing.

    Shoot or Shovel

Doug, Generally speaking I like the form of analysis you utilised in the preamble: "Adding the respective fire power factors for each side gives a ratio of 85 for the attacker to 86 for the defender excluding the DCs and the INF gun. That doesn't look like enough on the face of it but looks can...

AAR - AP169 THE BEASTS HAVE ARRIVED

Mr von Marwitz, Great write up as usual. Glad you had fun with the scenario. It is a little pro-Russian, but the Germans have lots of toys and fun. Firstly, what clued you into the fact that the scenario would descend into an 'Aussie-style bar room brawl'? Was it "A" - the fact that I designed...

ASL Journal #14 "Sparrow force" CG balance

Will, I would recommend playing the mini-CG straight-up. That said, if there is some unfamiliarity in playing the Japanese, then you might consider applying the bonus (also, the Australian are a little easier to play in this).

ASL Journal #14 "Sparrow force" CG balance

No 'nerfing' or 'smurfing' the Japanese intended ... Elements of the historical justifications (or back-story) to these SSRs (I count just three) are covered in Journal 14 (pp31-32). If someone has better historical reference material, please send it to be via a message. By way of observation...

ASL Journal #14 "Sparrow force" CG balance

Fair comments PJ ... Two reasons for this SSR and the thinking is not a 'slam dunk' but somewhat a personal preference. Firstly, the limited information on the carrier use in Timor indicated they fought as a separate unit providing overwatch. They did not peel-off their weaponry and hand it to...

ASL Journal #14 "Sparrow force" CG balance

Good comments Mr VonHutier. It might be not surprising that us Aussies have designed something a little pro-Aussie. It appears to be leaning that way. I find it tough to playtest scenarios involving Japanese in light terrain that does not involve static positions (ie. pillboxes, caves). That...
