Dt.Dave and I played “The Replacements” today.
A really fun scenario. It went down to the wire, with Dt.Dave’s Russians holding on to one of the two VC buildings for the win, with my Italians not being able win the final CC.
The Russian cause was helped immensely by 2/3 of the Italian armor...
My amigo, Jim, and I finished off the playtest scenario tonight.
The last 2 turns were a firestorm of violence, on both sides. The Russians barely eked out the win. I’m feeling pretty good about this one.
Or, you have people who complain about needing a doctorate in math to figure out the VC.
That always makes me chuckle; people who’ve learned ASL complaining about doing basic math.
Half way through Turn 4, of the playtest.
The Russians are their own worst enemy;
every fire attack in the DFPh cowered, and
the one hit a T-34 got with APCR was a Crit, followed by a dud. And not a single squad passed MC’s during the German AFPh.
Good thing the Germans are running out of time...
Dave, and Jim, kick off “Roads To Perdition”, in my fortified cellar, this a.m.
It’s getting crazy already.
Special ammo crit, and berserker partisans
somewhere during Turn 2;
Somewhere towards the middle of Turn 4;
We re-started the playtest, that was cursed by the dice last time. This time, a much more balanced game. Although, so far, there have been a disturbing number of 10s and 11s rolled.
The view, at the top of Turn 3, from my side of the field.
“Theirs The Strife” is an excellent book for those interested in the final days of the war on the Western Front, as well as being an outstanding updated version of “No Triumphant Procession”.
In most of the famous/well known photos from the battle, the “managed forest” is well represented.
I was reminded of those pictures, a few years back, when driving south from Bend, Oregon, on Highway 97.
