Can he rout into the halftrack that he's under?

There is a limited list of valid rout destinations, modified by SSR.
Buildings or woods is the short list of rout destinations.

If you did have a valid rout destination we could then have a marvelous discussion about routing into and out of transport vehicles.

Unfortunately no. Everything was either closer or adjacent.

That recently happened to me. The guys surrendered they had no other option.

But if only there were a "Car Jacking" SSR... Hey you know. I'm being shot at, not in a right frame of mind, have a gun, and see a halftrack. Yeah, I'm commandeering it to drive to the nearest building / woods hex!

So this is definitely FTR as you said, but to be pedantic having or not having a rout destination of buildings/woods is neither here nor there:

A10.51 …If no non-ignorable building/woods Location can be reached during that RtPh, a broken unit may rout to any terrain hex consistent with the above restrictions and need not rout toward the nearest woods/building Location.

So the real question is now that the unit is in a situation in which all woods/buildings hexes are ignored can it move into the vehicle during the rout phase? Which of course the answer is no (D6.4 LOADING only says you can embark during MPh), so FTR.

Why is this a FTR again?
What do you mean by no rout options?

Me? Every rout option was ADJACENT or closer to a KEU. Even the HT was ADJACENT but I know broken units already in a HT don't have to rout so I thought maybe I could slide in there.

D6.1 permits broken units to rout beneath a vehicle or remain in a vehicle. I don't see a rule that permits routing into a vehicle. COWTRA.

Maybe it wasn't my nearest valid rout target?
