I am thinking the same. I have a simple background "map" for use as a field maintenance Depot mapboard and I see I made it a png. I suspect the jpg did not work.

For the Ortona map, I used a jpg file.
As I recall, there was a time that gif was the only way to fly. But @DougRim fixed that. Since then, png has been my format of preference. But I see no reason why jpg wouldn’t work. And I just learned it does. Thanks. I don’t think svg works for maps, but I could be wrong.
Counters can use those formats too, plus svg. We’ve had great discussions on using svg in other threads. I recall these discussions concluded that the benefits of svg will be fully recognized when VASSAL 4 is released.
