I have but for very few occasions ventured into the desert yet.

But this is mostly due to my laziness to learn the rules and not because of a dislike for the theater.
The point is that one needs to play a set of rules regularly in order to really get a hold on them - just playing half a dozen scenarios of desert, night, air support, PTO, beach landings etc. won't do.

Given the number of scenarios played per year in total, this somewhat limits the expansion of one's scope, I feel.

Good observation about extensively playing one theater or mode.

Decades ago in my youth, I developed a deep interest in WWII armor reading about the Western Desert campaigns, particularly between the British 8th Army and the DAK. Pre-SL, I sought out desert scenarios for PanzerBlitz/Leader but never found any to my liking. Tried learning Tobruk when it came out, but that is when real life got in the way for a couple of decades (college/Air Force). Now that I have the time, I am really looking forward to seeing the battles come to life on the table!!
Back in the late '70s I went through my DTO period where I was very much into reading whatever I could about the that theater. Met Mac early in '82 and started playtesting DTO for him shortly afterwards. Great stuff!!🥰🥰

I have a few 3rd party scenario packs but they generally lack desert scenarios. The 'official' scenarios do give us a fairly broad scope for the cam[aign in Africa (including east Africa and Syria/Iraq/Iran). This is from my own chronology of war (the new AP 16 scenarios need to be added):

I think the popularity of the HL preorder shows there's interest in DTO. I've aways been a desert fan. If you've got new scenario ideas, I'm buying. A lot of people will be getting their first taste of DTO with the HL reprint. The bigger the menu, the better.

Usually, the (re-)release of a 'themed' product triggers a number of follow-up releases on the topic.

When 'Armies of Oblivion' came out, for a while you had Minors all over the place.

Have never played a DTO scenario because I did not own the maps and counters. I pre-ordered HL so am very much looking forward to learning chapter F and playing some.

I never stopped playing them. But, they were a once a year thing.

I would like to see more small to medium sized DTO scenarios. Most of the existing ones tend to be quite big.

Probably a lot of real estate is somewhat inherent to DTO because the lack of LOS-Blocking terrain requires some space to make up for it with room for maneuver or to bring the range-aspect of weaponry in it.

That said, as the MF of Infantry remain unchanged, more time is necessary to cover ground.

And there you go - larger scenarios...

Seems like valid observations.

Played Blazin' Chariots once, haven't gone back to the desert. Would like to try again in the future.

Same for me. I have played all from Hollow Legions and two or three others, many years ago.
ETO and PTO catch me more than DTO, simple as that.
Definitely not everyone's favorite theater. As much as I loved the DTO I preferred the ETO.

Under current rules, DTO is wasted time. There is always a better use of your available time with ETO/PTO alternatives.
