These may actually have been intended for servicemen rather than families. The silhouettes on the second game for example - sailors and airmen routinely had to memorize the silhouettes of enemy ships, so this might have been a backhanded way of reinforcing that by using a 'fun' method.

And if that sounds unlike the big, bad Nazis, they had some pretty whimsical manuals for their tank crews and anti-tank troops, done in comic book style with amusing illustrations alongside hardcore technical jargon. Google "tigerfibel" and you will see an example.
